The roller winder on my sun shade has broken and needs to be replaced. I searched and found threads for R56 and other 2nd Gen but nothing for 1st Gen. I went to the salvage yard and extracted a working one from a 2003 MCS and discovered there seems to be no way to remove the rear glass to get at the shade. I got the shade out by removing the headliner and then removing the metal frame strut under it. This allowed me to get at the rollers to free them and then the mounting clips.

Can you get the screen out from the top on a R53? Must you remove the headliner?
