JCW GarageInterested in John Cooper Works (JCW) parts for your 1st Generation MINI? This is where JCW upgrades and accessories for the Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs are discussed.
I've just purchased a used front aero bumper and it seems the lower lip that would screw into the mounting brackets was cut off or ripped off. Will the bumper fit sturdily without the bottom being properly attached? In the picture you can see what I mean. Any alternatives to mounting the bottom part? Thanks.
When I first installed it (also used), I didn't have the lower mounting parts and the bumper moved around far too much for my liking. It's a bit hard to see in this pic, but the lip on mine is still there, but cracked.
I plan to repair the cracks and will look at adding sheet aluminum as a backing piece to hopefully give it some strength. With your lip gone, you might consider rebuilding it with sheet plastic or fiberglass.
Unfortunately the lower air dam under the Aero bumper is a weak spot. It doesn’t flex like the one on the standard bumper, so they tend to break. That air dam is functional, and helps to reduce front lift.
FYI- The lower mounting brackets are still available from MINI, at least for now.
