Use Realoem.com for cross reference.

you could navigate through the R53 menu and pull the part number..towards the bottom of the page, they show cross reference of cars fitted with the same part number. Also, you can go to the Z4 section and lookup that part and see the year range for it. so if Z4 is fitted with it from 2002-2008, then it's with that range.

I think you're missing the OP's point.

He's not looking to see if the Z4 master cylinder is an exact match with the R53 part. He wants to know if there is any info out there on what model Z4 brake master cylinder was used to upgrade the braking performance on theR53.

Oh, thank you for the translation...I though crossing part numbers can at least get the ball rolling!

So what IS the "upgrade" ?
Smaller - larger piston diameter ?

If the piston diameter is the same, there is NO upgrade..!

Different is upgrade. Bigger is upgrade? OP had not share what performance attribute(s) he is after, so we can only guess.

Never said different is upgrade ! How would I know if I don't know what year of master cylinder he's using !
I'mI asking if anyone knows that way I can determine if indeed it's a upgrade , sorry if my writing is not clear but English is my 2nd language .😉

I have 6 pot BMW calipers and 330 discs using the OEM Mini cylinder with the same feel about it pedal wise, I don't see why people need to change, all it needs is to run what you have then decide, I guess some people assume they need it?

I've heard more about the E46 M3 cylinder being used, still with mods to the travel sensors or leaving them in, and minor pipe work.

When we upgraded to the GP2 brakes a couple years ago we felt the master needed to be upgraded, we could feel the difference after the swap. On the 4 pot and below kits we felt it was not needed. Its the pedal modulation on the GP2 kit. .

Talked about it here back in this thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...o-in-here.html

My guess if you did the swap and it was using a much larger brake set up near aftermarket 6 pots, you might need it. For pedal feel/modulation.

But again it's all about the feel and what you prefer. You could also switch back. MINI did it for a reason in the GP2 kit with there engineering otherwise they would have not upgraded it.

They're almost the same as GP2, mine are 135i, going from r56s going from stock r53, pedal only changed for bed in and great since, and they are just perfect for my little car as is ;O)

I wish they were a factory option haha. This is with OEM front and rear pads with the rear 280 kit, perfect match. I have Pagid RS29's to try when I find something I want for the rears.

R56 master cylinder and servo in an r53

Has anyone attempted to swap the entire servo and master cylinder from an r56 to the r53?
