R60 Side window glass laminated or tempered?
Side window glass laminated or tempered?
I was going to buy one of those "life hammer" things to break the glass in case of my wife crashes and rolls or lands in a canal. I read they don't work on modern cars with laminated glass, only tempered. Anyone know what our countryman's have?
All cars and trucks' side windows and rear window are made of tempered glass. When hit from the exterior, the glass is supposed to explode outward.
Windshields are laminated.

Don't buy the hammer....
Ever notice how a head rest can be taken off? You can use the hard ends to break the glass. I haven't checked in my countryman, but every car I've had otherwise is set like this.
The hammer will break either. A spring loaded Center Punch is the best tool. Push on the glass with it, POP and it is nicely shattered into very small pieces. It typically also uniformly shatters the entire windshield or laminated side window.
Once shattered you can push through the vinyl between the two sheets of laminated glass quite easily.
