Stealership Headlight retro fit help!!

Hi everyone!

I know this has been chewed one to many times but I can’t find a straight answer. I bought a countryman 2013 without HID. Now I can’t stand the regular non hid lights... they are very dim..

bought all OEM headlight assembly from ebay. Parts Coming off an countryman with HIDs.

Swapted the lightning housing. Took me 5 minutes... plug them up and drove to my local mini dealer in SD for them to code it.

i get a call back from the dealer saying that The cars computer is not taking the part number off the headlights and that’s the reason why it doesn’t work. I need to buy a retro kit from them in order for my lights to work. Wtf... their so call retro kit is the same thing I have bought. Housing, ballast, and bulb.
Am I missing something here!?

originally they were charging me 200 for the code, but now that they can’t do it bc of some sorcery that my lights don’t have the proper serial number or part number, that my cars cp is not taking, they are charging me 100 for the time they took to look at it and try.... f that if they told me that can do it. And they can’t why do I need to pay?

I have read many successful stories of people just taking their countryman’s after swapping housing and their dealers successfully codeing the lights. Am I not communicating correctly with them, do I need to tell them to do an specific code by name or something?

Any help would be highly appreciated bf I pick up my car from the dealer....

if I remember correctly, you can't do the retrofit with a set of HID's that came from a countryman w/ HIDs. The headlight that I bought when I did the retrofit (and had coded), was specifically made for cars that originally came equipped with halogens.

You can retrofit factory bi-xenon to a car with halogen but it would require additional wiring and also coding. The dealership is correct, the easiest way to do it would be to install the OEM 25W Xenon Retrofit kit and have it coded.

Without wiring the standard bi-xenon lights will not work even with coding, only the retrofit 25w bi-xenon kit will work without wiring but will still require coding.

Omg... so I messed up in buying a headlights off a countryman with HID from eBay? I just need to buy the a retro kit which is what I have but the wiring is different?
Only way mine will work if I go in there and re wire everything inside the harness?

Would it it work if I just buy one one those hid kits and bypass everything inside the headlight housing?

thanks a lot I really appreciate your time!

I would sell the ones you have and get the 25w kit or get the aftermarket ones with the DRL omega light and then get a xenon or led retrofit kit like Morimoto.

The old adage strikes again and its particularly meaningful for MINI's .... research and ask questions before you hand over your $$$
