JCW GarageInterested in John Cooper Works (JCW) parts for your 1st Generation MINI? This is where JCW upgrades and accessories for the Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs are discussed.
So...back story..bought my JCW (04 dealer install[no cert]) few months back, just cleaning it up ect, then as i was reading on the forums all the things that should have JCW "stuff". The only thing i hadnt looked into was the ECU, so i pulled it. It doesnt have the sticker of when it got the flash. So do i possibly have an r53 with all the bolt on JCW stuff or could they have 'forgotten' the sticker. I know it has the r53 injectors and airbox(pictured)...so its not the 210.
If it is actually a dealer install, then its possible they forgot the sticker on the ECU. Mine is a dealer install 04 from CA, and it does have the sticker on the ECU
I hope they forgot it, it would be nice to track down where it was orginaly sold, or even the original owner....but that was 14yrs ago. I assume it came from san diego or escondido.
The sticker was actually a paper label so it could have just disitegrated or it's at the bottom of the holder. My 04' has the label but it's barely hanging on.
I did a fair amount of research about pulleys when I considered going to a 19% ratio (see the below thread). The pulley is measured from where the inside of the belt contacts, so the outer edge of a the JCW pulley is just shy of 2 1/2" as I have mine next to the laptop as I write this post. In approximate numbers the belt is about 1/8" thick, so take that 1/4" off the 2 1/2" outer diameter and you get the 2.285" that has been posted numerous other places. The S pulley is 2.565 that would make it about 2 3/4" at the outside.
Thanks for the info. I guess I'm qustioning the authenticity of my JCW; with no sticker on the ECU, the fuel door doesn't have the sticker, and the badge on the back isn't aligned with the 'Cooper S'. The reference I'm going off of is http://www.motoringfile.com/howto/JCW_MCS_install.pdf
the cert would be nice but that ship sailed with one of the previous owners. My next step is to get over to a Mini dealer to see what tune is on the ECU.

Thanks for those numbers on the pulley diameters....I was looking for those numbers when I picked up my JCW R52 .......now I gotta measure my supercharger pulley and see if it matches your findings
I'm also considering going to a 15% pulley on the JCW engine......would it make much of a difference you think? I'm wondering if the $$ spent would be worth it or not.....
So, i tracked down the original owner(stalker much), talked with him for a few min. He ordered it from the dealership with the JCW options in late 2003, took delivery in 2004. He said that he may still have the cert filed away.
his reason for selling it....problems with the run flats.

evidently they kept having issues and he kept replacing them. Didnt want aftermarket wheels/tires since theres no spare and didnt want to get stranded. Thats what roadside assistance is for IMO.
Looking at an 03 and this is the location of the badge on the back. Also no certificate. He’s going to take a picture of the gas flap for me. The badge location is the only inconsistent detail so far.
Thats a 210 kit. Will have blue fuel injectors and has the flap on the air filter box. If it has the red calipers it will be a factory 210 JCW if not its a dealer install kit

The original owner may have had the 200, then when the 210 came out they went back in to get the extras put on. As ive been keeping track of JCW kit numbers, there have been a good handful of people who did this.
BTW...whays the kit # for my spreadaheet🤔
It’s an 03. Shouldn’t it be the 200 kit? I read the 210 didn’t start until 2004.

I had the JCW 200bhp kit installed on my 2002 MCS and then had the 210bhp upgrade kit (airbox and 380cc injectors plus tune) installed when it became available. I didn't have the JCW badges installed.
