2011 R55 Non-turbo Engine upgrades?

I’ve just recently purchased a Mini. My first ever mini. All I know is that it’s a 1.6L DOHC(apparently) 4-cylinder Naturally-aspirated engine pushing somewhere around 120Bhp. Now I want to get a tad more power, like an extra 100horses. I want to go all motor. Thinking of dropping some cams and getting a tune. But I haven’t found anything and I don’t know if there’s a JCW package I could add on or purchase. From what I’ve been told it’s be best to trade for an S/JCW or just swap the engine..

I want to just build an all motor but I can’t find anything. Is it possible to swap heads? Pistons cams? Any help I can get to find the right parts, and get my car tuned properly

There is no aftermarket parts for that motor, mainly because there is no demand.

You may be able to get an intake and an exhaust

I found a cold air intake, and I have already done a muffler Delete. Only exhaust-kit I found was a universal magnaflow catback kit. Thanks, but is it possible to get cams custom made?

Welcome to NAM.

Going to move you to the Gen2 Mod section, might get some better views there.

Fellow Gen2 Justa owner here - I think your best option to get higher horsepower is to trade cars for a S model.

Have you tried using the sport mode?

Buy a Magnaflow exhaust manifold cat assembly. Unbelievable increase in power. Go under the Gen 2 Non-S modification forum and you will see my posts on this along with pictures. Hands down, the best thing you can do. Look at the pictures of the original assembly and then look at the pics of the Magnaflow unit. Incredible change in my car!

Conventional wisdom is that the base, NA engine doesn't have much more to give. A few weeks ago someone here discovered that's totally not true:

But if you are looking to add 100hp, you have the wrong engine, even with the Magnaflow exhaust header & cat. You'll be wanting a turbo charger.

Get a Honda

if you are looking for 125hp/liter from a naturally aspirated four cylinder then look a Honda S2000 or Acura Integra Type R. Incredible machines. I have an S2k. Given that there’s a turbo Cooper S which has decent tuning potential, an aftermarket for the Mini never really develeped. Even if one had I doubt we’d be looking at much improvement without big bucks.

I’m going to need to see dyno numbers. I trust the forum member with the Magnaflow header but I’d bet the improvement is less than 15 hp which would be good.

i agree, a larger bore manifold is going to lose exhaust gas velocity & torque-that’s why it gives the illusion of increased power as it revs itself out of the reduced torque pit that’s been created.
I want to see credible dyno graphs before/after to back up any claims, the quality control sounds dire as well

2009 Mini R55 non S Upgrades

For the Magnaflow 553028 part, can you use the stock exhaust or do you need to replace the entire system from the headers/cat back to the exhaust tip? It's out of stock but I found this...

It looks like a bolt on and you just need to swap the 2 oxygen sensors. I just recently replace a defective sensor with a new Bosch OEM one. I love this car and really didn't want the turbo for the type of driving I'm doing but a little more power would be nice.
