XM Direct install for HK equipped MCS

Another $150 install - this time on an HK equipped 04 MCS.

Using the same XM Direct unit, and BlitzSafe XMD/BMW 100 (no pass through) Interface.

Antenna placement and cable routing is the same as before.

The difference is the HK module, found in the side compartment:

It's huge!

Takes up most of the available space, and at first glance we were convinced that the XM Direct and BlitzSafe would never fit in....

Also, the MINI wiring loom was taped under the HK module, and at first glance it looked like the necessary connectors were not there

However, they are just well taped to the MINI wiring, and some careful fishing about under the HK module freed-up the necessary connectors.

So, we spent some time playing with the BlitzSafe and XM Direct, looking for the best mounting points.

Ended up with the BlitzSafe going in first, between the HK and the tail-light - double sided tape to the inner skin.

Wires looped up over the HK unit, out of the way.

Then, XM Direct fitted to the HK unit with double-sided, to the right of the opening:

We toyed with putting the XM Direct module on the back of the compartment 'door', but opted for mounting inside the compartment.

Either will probably work, but we figured that the wiring would be less likely to be disturbed when the module was mounted inside the compartment.

The Audio L/R and control cables point straight up, and the antenna cable (purple) points down, and is coiled under the HK module.

So apart from the time spent looking at mounting options, it was a straightforward install, and sounded great over the HK system

Another happy XM/MINI

Chris.

Check out my how-to thread here:

That should explain it all.

I have NAV and installed my XM direct by using the MINI Sirius bracket and then drill a small hole through my NAV antenna and wiring the antenna through that and down into the vehicle. Very stealth looking. I'd say I did a nice job. I installed this on the left side of the vehicle. For some reason I can't post my pictures, so I'll have to figure it out and post them later.

I did more or less the same thing with mine. However, I kept hearing a squeak or buzzing from back there so I eventually took the seat out and the side panel off to mount the XM box to the back of the seat post with ty-wrap and that cured the issue.

It also would have made the antenna feed much easier as I would not have had to reach way up through the hole to get the plug so for anyone who has the time (maybe an extra hour) and inclination, I would definitely suggest going that route.

That's $150 for the hardware, not the installation!

As discussed here, it's an easy self install.

It was a great price! Blitzsafe clamped down on it and it looks more like $250.00 now.

First set was from BS direct and Crutchfield. $150 + post

That deal is now being throttled at birth by the manufacturer

This set was from EBAY $150 + post

Blitzsafe adapter for XM direct

Hey everyone, I was reading all of the previous blogs and was doing research on these adapters. and was wondering if these adapters you are talking about are found at:
http://www.myradiostore.us/auxadapters/blitzsafe/

Are these the right ones? and if so, they arn't going to cost you too much
~ $100 - $110 for the Mini adapter.

Please tell me if I am wrong. I am interested in purchasing these.

These are not the right ones I'm afraid

They are only for interfacing things like CD changers or iPods etc.

The XM Direct Interface is a different model XMD/BMW 100 or 101

Don't buy any other models, or you'll be dissapointed when you can't control your XM Direct from the MINI controls.
