Can I do my own maintenance?

Our 2012 Countryman just went off the free maintaince plan. Can the service be done at home, or is it like a BMW where you pretty much have to take it in to get the oil light reset, etc?

Well never mind, I found the mini mania website and ordered the stage 2 maint. kit since I'm hitting 45,000 miles. Oil, filter, cabin and engine air filters. Looks like I can reset the oil change counter in the dash by pushing some buttons.

Anyone know if that updates the key fob? I'm going to keep paper records anyways.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm with the understanding everytime you start your car the fob will me updated with what ever it normally records. Unless you use the 2nd fob, then it updates that one instead.

All those fancy do dads you guys have. Does that mean you don't have the Dixie Cup & String phone system that we have in our Gen1's.

There are certain things that I will not attempt to do as I don't have a lift such as the clutch, but most other simple things I do myself and spend the money saved on something else that makes me smile even more when I turn the key.

We use Campbell soup cans and kite string. Higher quality material renders a more lifelike quality on the receiving end...and a button off the old man's suit coat to tie in the string.

The previous owner decided not to check the Soup Can Phone option so I was stuck with Dixie Cup.

Yep, you can do your own maintenance, I would get the schwaben tool and a Bently manual. Yes it does not cover the Countyman specifically but they share the engine and other items.

Success. Oil change, air filter, cabin filter done. Oil was 2 quarts low! Sheesh. Need to start checking that monthly. Air filters look like they've never been changed. Darned "free maintenance". Brake pads have enough meat on them to last until the next change.

I do all my maintenance at home. I only had the dealer do oil changes until the free maintenance period was over.

I don't have a lift, but my next door neighbor does and he is very generous about letting me use it.
