Hi all.
Getting ready to order new pads for my 2010 MCS. Do I have to replace the rotors, too? The existing rotors look fine and have no grooves or cracks in them.

I typically go two sets of pads to one set of rotors on my MINIs

and 'resurfacing' MINI rotors is not recommended either as they are fairly thin to begin with.

note that the minimum thickness is cast into the OE rotors ... look at the inner rim, around the hub hole.

IN THE BEGINNING MINI always swapped rotors with pads under pre-paid maintenance but later dropped this policy.

OTOH .... if there is any question in your mind. Simple plain jane rotors are perfectly fine for 99% of MINI drivers ... slots and holes are bling. Plain rotors are not expensive and once you pull the caliper to get to the pads 80% of the work of changing the rotors is done.

WAY has some nice bundles of pads and rotors that work well. I'm a fan of EBC red pads for some 10 years now on my MINIs ... low dust and good for everyday street use.

 

 

EBC Red Stuff brake pads w/front drilled and slotted rotors, and just plain (but new) rotors in the back. Cost me $750 parts and labor to have them installed.

Rotors are inexpensive and if they can't be resurfaced then I replace them. I'd rather do that then to have to redo everything because the new pads don't like the old rotors and I'm left with brake squeal or less than great stopping power. Sometimes that extra foot of stopping is the difference!

 

I would recommend going ahead and doing the rotors as it can reduce the issues coming up like noise or vibration.

no, depending on the pad I go 3-4 pads per rotor set, some pads are hard on the rotors some aren't depends on the material & usage

 

I used Zimmerman rotors with EBC yellows last time... getting near the end of pad now - I am curious to measure the rotors and do not plan to replace if within spec.
