Thanks Alex,
For the Hawk HPS ceramic, What is the best application for this pad?
Autocross?
Light track?
Or Street?
Can it be used for all three?
Does it wear the rotors any more or less than say EBC green pads?

Good news Alex. In addition to answering the application question (street, Track, AutoX) any idea as to brake dust as compaired to EBC Greens? I have the Greens and there great for low dust and not bad as a street, autoX pad.

I just want the Hawk Road Racing Pad,
I went through more than 50% through my DS3000's in one event, so I need a set of pads for day 2.

I'd go with street, autocross. They'd wear down dramatically on the track. Thats what HP+ is for. I just got the ceramics on our 323I. I have seen the car since the brake job, so I can report back on dusting soon.

HP+ and HPS are comming, but as of date Hawk is not planning to bring any Blue 9012, or any MT/HT. I think I'd go HP+ for track duty.

If you think they need a racier pad, send me and email. I am gathering info for Hawk. More to come on how to use your hawks!

Claimed to be much less than HPS, on par with EBC, I will report back when I get a chance to inspect them.

I'd concider hawk Ceramic or HPS for your street use. The coolest part with the Hawk family is that they are all the same friction family, and recepie used.

Drive your HPS ceramic to and from the track, and
for light auto X. When you get to the track, you drop
your HP+ in , warm them up and go racing.

When the day is done you go back to pad set #1.
This keeps wear off street brakes, and allows optimal
fade resistance with hp + when you need it.

HP+ is too harsh on the rotors at street or autocross temperatures.
It is also VERY dusty and very noisy @ low temps.

The shared formula in compouds does not require rebedding.

Call me when its time to try them!
HP+ pads should be here next week, and ceramics are instock.

Do the hawk pads have a notch for the sensor?

This is an excerpt from one of our product information trainers here at TireRack. He's began motoring with and early 02 S, and is still driving his 04 S.

The OE pads were typical BMW - good initial bite even when cold, great stopping power with firm pedal feel. But they were very dusty, and made some noise, especially at low speeds and light pedal pressure. One short track day and the OE pads began to squeal at every stop. The front wheels were always the first part of the car that needed cleaning.

Installing the Hawk Performance Ceramic pads has stopped the noise, and they have little to no real dust. Stopping power is good. The pedal is a little softer, and the initial bite when cold is somewhat less than the OE pads. This was most noticeable when the pads were breaking in, but after a few hundred miles I don’t think about it anymore. These are great street pads for spirited road driving. If you want to hammer the canyon roads, autocross or do track days, the OE pads or other Hawk products will be a better fit, if you can live with the tradeoff in increased dust and noise.

So far, one of our racing/autocrossing club members is really digging the Hawk HP+ pads. He was running Ferodo 2500's before. Said he thinks the HP+ have better initial bite than the 2500's, make about the same amount of noise, don't seem to mind the heat of autocrossing or lapping, and dust like crazy just like the 2500's...

I agree, HP+ ia hard to "fade" for a motorsport pad. HPS offers a bit less noise in favor of a more streetable carbon pad.

I think Hawk Ceramic will be a great replacemnt with smoother and quiet, lower dust focuses, but more brake bite than EBC.
They also have proven to be better for even freiction distrobution on my lady's 323I. No more brake pusle.

All right, a slightly different spin to this thread. I want to replace the OEM pads for dirty wheel reasons. I plan to use the car for daily driving and monthly autocrossing. I have heard from several different sources that the EBC Greens do NOT hold up to hard use but disintegrate. I've heard that the Ferodo 2500s do not heat up enough for autocross or even moderate track use, so are terrible cold.

I guess I'm a little concerned about Alex's comment that the Hawk ceramics are good for LIGHT autocrossing. What's light autocrossing, Alex?

What else is out there that can be used for street and autocross, is less dirty but will hold up?

Light auto X refers to weekend enthsuiasm. The fero-carbon Hawk has more brake bite, and stopping power. If your not chasing 10ths of a second, the Hawk Ceramic will work well. If you want the most brake power in a street application the HPS, witch is fero carbon not ceramic, may be a better choice.

I drive HPS - my better half drives Performance Ceramic , do give real world example.

Ceramic will hold up well, both forumulas are low temp enough for street use. The ceramics are more "rotor freindly" - they just dont bite as hard.

Let me know if I can clarify further

What's the dirty factor like on the ferocarbon? I'm not the best autocrosser but a tenth of a second can make the difference.

Hawk Ceramic Pads, Fitment on 05 S

Are there any fitment concerns with the Hawk Ceramics on an 05 MCSC? I only drive on the street, want decent performance with as little dust as practical. Need your advice, Alex? Thanks.

The rear pad fitment from hawk on 04-05 cars is not yet available, there was a change to the brake pad wear sensor, and the pad's backing plate must be altered. Comming in April / May. If you are in need of using your sensor, tie it out of the way and use and 02-03 rear pad fit. Same friction material size.

Hi Alex, as safe-guard, email sent regarding the HPS. Would love to have them (rears only) for a weekend install. If you don't get the email, please PM me... Thanks!

EDIT/ADD: While in my email I say that I have an '03, it's a first week '03 - 09/06/02 build date. There are no sensors, at least as far as I can tell...

Alex, I'm really confused about the pad wear sensor issue. I've got an '03 with pad sensors on the left front and right rear. Seems this wasn't available on '02's, and seems to have changed for '04-05's??

Does that mean any aftermarket pad that will fit an '03 is really just an '02? That is, don't expect to keep using the pad sensor if I forgo OEM pads?

Thanks

Richard
