Since I put my snowtires on this past weekend, I've been wondering whether or not I should keep the steel wheels "naked" or cover them with the plastic wheel covers I purchased from TireRack at the same time as the tires. So, I figure, who better to ask than folks on MCO? There's sure to be an opinion or two here )

BTW, this may also prove useful for anyone wanting to see an MCS with 15" wheels and winter tires. I changed out of the 17" S-Lite wheels...and look forward to Spring when they can go back on (maybe with lighter tires though). But until then, which look is better?

I like without the covers. Looks like a 'sleeper.'

It was 55 in the morning here in June. Now it's like 30 in the morning and we are having a mild late fall. Must be nice......

55 in the morning...geeze. I'm getting ready to go to AZ for a week where the ONLY bad part will be driving a rental car and not the MINI. But, I'm looking forward to some high 70 days (and missing tomorrow night's snow storm here in MA!).

I think without. It looks tough and after five months of winter you will be really excited to go back to the other tires with the wheel covers. Also, perhaps it is less attractive to thieves without the wheel covers.

Here in Upstate NY we only have two seasons, winter and July.

I forgot to ask, what brand and model tires did you select from TireRacK?

I like without the covers too, looks tough. And, we here in SoCal know what winter is. I think that last week it got down to 43 degrees or so 1 night. Don't worry, I'm not going to mention that we've had 80's & 90's this week and part of last...oops

Without, but tint your windows and it will look color coded. Seriously though, without.

I would have to say without, especially on the EB.

The consensus definitely seems to be "without"...and I have to say that I'm definitely leaning that way (unless we get a whole lot of "with" votes soon). But, I'm wondering why the so-strong reaction to the chrome-like covers? Is it a color thing like docjchan suggests...but if that's so, how come the aluminium alloy wheels look ok? Or is it the number of spokes and overall design?

It does have alot of spokes.....but because it'a a chrome-like cover, it just seems a little too 'bling bling' on a MINI.

jsun, I've got to try this out for myself. I ordered my 15" and Blizzaks a couple of days ago, probably the same setup as you have. mine won't be in until after Thanksgiving. But once I put them on, I'll have to take a snap shots with/out and then ponder which looks better. But on your EB I still think w/out. I think it might look better with on my Dk Silver

The spacing between the spokes make the alloys look good, I think.

Gee, do I have to like either of them? Because I don't. Is the snow really that bad where you live? Maybe you should have gone with the all-seasons.

In some parts of the country, there's no such thing as an all-season tire. I didn't post the picture on this thread, but I too have black alloys and snow tires. I live in northern Vermont and work weekends at Stowe Mountain Resort (a ski area), so, for me, all season tires would be a joke.

I'm facing that snow tire/new rims issue myself...today.
I can't really see the pic posted ...so my comment will unfortunately be...
I dunno

I do like the whole black stealth look...btw.
I think true black chrome wheels on a silver mcs would look...killer.

Peace,
D
