R56 Auto Trans shifting issues
R56 Auto Trans shifting issues
Hey I have a '10 R56 with auto 6 speed trans with just at 79,000 miles, it has started shifting funny, around sharp corners at low speeds it almost slips is the best I can describe, revs up slightly then grabs 1st or 2nd gear depending on speed. It only happens at lower speeds around 15-40, higher speeds no issues. any ideas?
Change the fluid and give the new fluid a month or so to clean out the valve body. If that does not solve the shifting issues consider a second change before committing to changing the valve body.
Changing the ATF fluid change is not a particularly hard DIY task, I believe you'll find "how-to's" on NAM and on Pelican's site. Given the miles, drop the trans pan for a complete cleanout, at 79K there will be considerable muck to remove.
You'll need an ATF fluid that meets JWS 3309. There are many on the market from Liqui-Moly, SWEPCO and Valvoline to name a few.
Tip: Pump the new fluid up into the pan drain, it is far easier than trying to use the intended fill port.

I know This is an old thread, but I’m having the same problem. The car sat for 2 years and put a new motor in. Not sure if it slipped before.
Assuming it didn't, is there anything else that can be added to safely clean the valve bodies.
Thanks,
Tim
