Anyone use the K+N Typhoon cold air intake? Good power boost?

K&N Typhoon Intake

I've been running the Typhoon intake for 1.5 years on my 11 JCW Hatchback. I felt an immediate increase in low end power & it sounds like a BOV. Performance and great sound for under $300.

never did it. That one comment from the guy above saying it robbed low end power turned me off. Who needs the headache just to make your JCW sound louder. Past the age where I get hard listening to my engine.

Makes sense to me. I don't mind performance but I'd like to have it at the low end as well. A balance would be nice.

I think these JCWs are pretty well balanced when they were produced. Lot of guys mess with the computer, the charge pipe, intercooler, air intake. Not sure on any of that stuff. My JCW is under 100K warranty so I don't mess up the warranty right now.

I have a 2007 MCS with the JCW turbo and I just added a JCW airbox. I recently removed my k&n typhoon and Riss racing downpipe and my operating temps came down and bottom end is better. The turbo still boost up to 16 lbs but seems more well balanced. I rebuilt my engine with Carrillo forged CP pistons and redid the whole engine. The downpipe typhoon Intake and a Cobb tune made the car hard to drive and gave a lot of octane knock. I like this set up better

wow. Nice. Thanks for writing that. I was really wondering about some of these mods. Def not do the Typhoon. Wondering about the downpipe too. Good to know!

I autocross and daily my car. I even took my car on a long g trip with trailer behind it. With the boost turned up with old set up the power wasn't obtainable without high octane gas or problems.

if you not doing a ram air type set up I believe getting a K&N typhoon will be waste (no gains). I plan to mod the hood screen and then get a ram air scoop like in the pics.
with the matching intake. Saw ones from AEM, DDM, and RD.

Personally I really like my Typhoon. I can definitely feel the power gain.

Typhoon

I was curious about whether the AEM would clear my strut brace.
Thanks for sending the pics. What brand is the pic on the right?

Does any one here have the AEM? If so what do you think?
I am trying to decide between the AEM and the JCW unit.

Thanks
