No start - wipers going crazy, windows dead, radio dead.

Hi this is my first post so, I have an 07 manual that was running perfect until my last trip. My wife parked the car and when she went to start it the engine would crank, but would not start; wipers start running as soon as the key is inserted and the radio went dead; The windows stopped rolling up and down. I checked the fuses on passenger side and under hood they all test good. I checked the switch connector that goes to the trans and its good, I also checked the wiring harness for any chewed wires and did not find any.

yeah our cars act weird when their batteries go. Check the voltage at the battery.

Also, welcome to the forum!

I don think it is the battery, but i could be wrong. Can you get an OBD reading (can you communicate with the DME/ECU)?

Get the codes read and start from there.

If the voltage drops below 11.5 different ecu's will shut down. My bet is if you have the codes read you will see one for voltage drop. If the voltage is good then you could have a bad Footwell Module which is located behind the driver side kick panel. Water can leak down into the module and fry it. I had a BMW 328 that the battery went totally dead and bricked the footwell module. I had to replace it and code the new one.

Check the battery charge.
If it is OK in charge and V, go for the codes.

If not, change the battery.

Thanks for all the replies, I put a new battery in about a month ago, I did a quick charge when I got it back to the house yesterday, I'm slow charging it right now. I will check voltage once it is finished. I pulled codes and the only code was a P0503 speed change. I had a dead battery before but my radio never blacked out and it would still start if jumped, so this is why I'm confused. Would the battery control module cause your engine to crank but not start?

Thanks, Kelso

There is no battery module on these minis. If the car was towed, then the abs will have faulty reading until you drive the car..where you able to get the car running?

Try cleaning the battery terminal first before buying a battery. They are only a few bucks at walmart and you will be surprised if it works. Mini Cooper batteries corrode at the battery terminal and you do not even have to see actual corrosion. The same thing happened to my car and I was puzzled. There was no visible corrosion which is why it took so long for me to try a brush on the terminal. They have a brush for the terminal and connection scans thirty are found at all auto stores

Hi All - I had the same symptoms (no start - just a single click, dead radio/ display, no chimes, no windows, headlights stay on while car is on even when they are switched off) and I was wondering if anyone got a solution to this?

Clean terminals, then if that does not work, its the battery.

Hi ECSTuning,

All the above done already. My battery was still fairly new, I even got another one. Still nothing.

Check the fuse box behind the passenger kick panel...check for water intrusion. Also check the green cube relays...there is also another one by itself facing the ABS module.

Where are you located?

The first thing to check is try to connect to the FRM module through OBD2 port.
If you can connect to others modules but FRM, then you need to check FRM connector and status (visual inspection) and if there is nothing to do you must replace the FRM.

If there is no way to connect to FRM through OBD2 port, then:

1) Check battery connection
2) Check battery status
3) Test with a health battery or replace battery
4) Check FRM connection
5) Check FRM status (visual inspection)
6) Replace FRM module
