Another stuck oil filter cap

I have a 2004 MCS. I recently replaced the oil cooler o rings and decided to change the oil while I was at it. I have to correct 36mm wrench to take the filter cap off. In doing so the cap turned a quarter of the way and then the nut that was on top sheared off so now I have a crack on the top of my filter housing. I have tried a oil filter wrench which lost the battle and bent and broke. I went and bought a good strap wrench and attempted to break it free and no luck. I was wondering if there are any other tips or tricks I can try besides running the engine up to temp because it shoots oil everywhere?

Don't run the engine, whatever you do...

Have you tried a Vise-Grip Chain Clamp (below)?

I apologize in advance for asking this, but since you said that it went a quarter-turn and stopped before the top shearing off, are you certain that in trying to remove the oil filter cover, you didn't mistakenly turn it clockwise and tighten it more, leading to the breakage?

Like I said, no disrespect... just asking...

No I have not tried the chain grips to remove it.

No I was turning it counter clock wise to loosen it and like I said it moved a quarter turn and then stopped and the top sheared off.

You'll find it easier to just remove the oil filter housing from the engine and either remove the cap on a bench, or replace the housing depending on damage to threads or casting.

I wouldn't try to fight with the cap with the filter housing still on the car. Even though it'll make a bit of a mess I would highly recommend just removing the whole assembly, minus the oil cooler.

I was able to get mine off using a 6 point 36m 1/2 in impact using a swivel and long extension. Took about 15 min of pounding with the impact then... I used a half in breaker bar with long pipe , after all that I was able to get it to start moving . All set now

If you can try and heat the housing cap up as much as possible then put on a chain vice grips or a rubber strap style remover.. the heat should expand it to help get it off..
