Oil solenoid harness rodent damage, blown 25amp fuse...

Hey everyone, I posted this in the R55 section but havent seen any responses. Link below.

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ght-codes.html

I am going to pickup the car tomorrow morning. Here is a break down of what MINI of Seattle told me.

1st - They replaced the thermostat and the HPFP.
2nd - They found rodent damage to the Oil solenoid harness.
3rd - They didnt find any blown fuse.

SO, MINI of Seattle was the 2nd shop I took this car to. The 1st shop specifically diagnosed the BLOWN 25AMP FUSE first, which they said was caused by a failed electrical diode in the CPU.

Can someone help me verify what electrical circuit the oil solenoid harness is tied to? Is it the 25amp fuse, F2? Picture attached of what fuse was blowing. I checked this before I took it to the first shop. I replaced the fuse and it immediately blew again. Unless one of the shops replaced it, it should still be blown.

Hi ThirteenthCurve,

I did some research in my Bentley Manual. The fuse F2 you have shown in the picture is listed as "Engine control module (ECM)". I believe you have the N18 motor in your Mini. The Bentley Manual has a wiring diagram that shows the Engine oil pressure sensor and Oil pressure control valve are wired to the DME (Digital motor electronics) control unit. The only thing I can find is the DME relay which is located in the fuse box in your picture. The relay is the white square relay immediately to the left of fuse F2.
The oil solenoid is located on the oil pump which is accessed by removing the oil pan. The pictures in the Bentley Manual shows the wire comes out of the side of the engine block above the oil pan. It's difficult to determine exactly where from the picture.
Do yourself a favor and Google "Mini Cooper Oil Solenoid". You'll find threads in various Mini sites that discuss leaking solenoids that have damaged wiring harnesses.
I know your anxious for an answer but you might want to purchase the Bentley Manual which will help you research the problem.

I just picked the car up this morning from the MINI dealer, and yep, its going to be the wiring harness as I feared. So now the process of either taking it to a shop to have this fixed or doing it myself....

Ill be looking for a Bentley manual soon...

Jacked the car up and got under it just a bit ago.

Found the broken wires right at the cover plate on the back side of the motor.

ThirteenthCurve, here is a link to realoem.com which shows the solenoid: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=11_4549.

If the wire is broken right where it comes out of the block, it likely is the wire attached to the solenoid, not a harness. You should trace the wire and find the connector. You may need to replace the solenoid.

Thank you. It is currently at the shop being looked at, verified, then....we'll see what they say it'll cost and go from there.

Ouch, we sell the oil pressure solenoid repair kit and install it for wayyyy less than that.

Who is doing the work, and do they have a DME pin out to properly wire the harness repair in?

Z-Sport Euro here in Everett, WA. Seattle MINI quote this out at the same cost, however, they are an hour drive.

I am not familiar with the process. They seem reputable and work on MINI's often. Can you explain this so I can verify when I go to pickup the car?

As long as they have access to the TSB instructions on the job you should be fine.
