F55/56 Manual Trans Shift Notification

Is there a way to disable the gear change notification in the display just behind the wheel?

I've always driven manual cars based on sound, feel, etc. Find the notification to change gears or shift from 1>3 etc. to be rather distracting.

Thanks.

I just ignore mine most of the time! Look ahead and "feel" the car....thankfully, a manual transmission still is controlled by the driver!

Frankly, I forgot it was even there. My first car, a Saturn SC2 had this obnoxious yellow light that would turn on in the instrument cluster.

I'm almost positive there's no selection in any of the menus to turn it off. You would have to do some coding to get rid of it.

Me too. Ford Escort. Ugh I hated that light.

This is way less obnoxious, but definitely want to figure out the programming piece to change that to either off or something else. Where should I start to do that and how hard is that likely to be?

I'm not a fan either.

I do however like the gear indicator because that tells me if I've mixed up 1st and Reverse.

I'm usually too busy watching where I'm going to look at a gear change suggestion. I seldom look at the tach. It's easier to go by engine sound and feel.

Those lights/indicators are there for EPA ratings. The EPA testing methodology says that if the car has an indicator that says when to shift, then the tester has to follow them. That's how they get good fuel economy on the window sticker. Without such an indicator, it's likely the car would have 1mpg lower on the sticker. And per the same rules, the indicator must not be able to be disabled.

My dad had an SL2 that I learned stick on. As a learner I found it very reassuring to have the guidance. It was also decently programmed; rather than triggering at a set RPM it was throttle dependent. If throttle was wide open, it delayed the light to much higher in the curve.

Some parts of the car aren't there for the experienced drivers.

Gotcha. I can live with that logic then.

Already started to ignore it.
