My 04 r53 has over 100k miles...the car would sometimes just die with no warning when I am stopped at a light. Everything turns off, and the needles on the speedo would be stuck at the position it was in. All electrical would be completely off, can't even turn on hazards. Sometimes I can park my car, and come back to it later. I would not be able to unlock my car with the key fob, and I would have to manually unlock it with the key. The clock would reset to 0:00, all the stats on the ecu would reset as well. The battery on the car is a little over 2 years old. Went to get it tested and battery is still good. However, my alternator was failing. So I just replaced it today, and everything looked good, until the car died again...

Not sure what else is wrong with the car...

 

First thing to do is go over ALL of the ground straps and check them for grease or corrosion and tightness.

 

I took a look at all the ground straps and there was no corrosion and everything was tight

This thread shows the exact problems as mine. But I don't think they ever found the solution.

 

it seems he might have done the starter? i dont know much about the R50, 53. but i hope you get it fixed soon
