Anyone know what can be done about the turbo lag? looking to shorten the response time.

You could buy a D1 or Sprint Booster. It will make the throttle reaction faster

Chances are it's not lag on that teenie tiny turbo, it's probably the drive by wire as MarioKart suggests.

So does it make sense to up-grade the turbo? And do the throttle upgrade also? Keep in mind that I just up-graded the ECU with the Manic Tune.

I don't see either listed in your upgrades, how did you address this?

i replaced the stock exhaust with a milltek downpipe back system and it made a big difference in boost lag

i can floor it at 1500 rpm and see about 9.5 pounds of boost by 1800 rpm

Have you deleted your boost muffler? If not we offer a delete tube which will allow quicker turbo spool and more power sooner, and they are a nice cost effective upgrade. You can check them out here

delete the hot side muffler, put on a high flow cat or catless downpipe, full exhaust then tune. Response will be amazing.

Sprint Booster testimonials

We've had great testimonials on Sprint Booster.

Here are some reviews about the Sprint Booster:

" I LOVE IT! The throttle is much much more responsive. You actually have to get used to it a bit and feather the throttle or the car will surge. The responsiveness in P400 mode is closer to P500 mode now. I know there's no incremental power improvement here but it just feels like I added about 50 horses. The car is noticeably quicker off the line and lunches stronger with each gear change. Now the downside....I have to give this thing back to my friend. =( "

"Just installed my Sprint Booster, and i'm very pleased with the results. Took me a little more than 10 minutes to install it, and yeah I agree with you guys that it is a little scary that the whole accelerator just kind of falls out. My car feels A LOT more responsive when i touch the throttle now. Well worth the $$ i spent. "

"Y'all - I installed mine in less than 10 minutes today. Money well spent! The car really lurches forward when you touch the accelerator. It seems to me that the supercharger kicks in a little sooner also (although maybe I'm imagining this). Great product! - be careful when you first put it in though - it's pretty aggressive especially when in traffic! "

"Thanks for a great product. The car should've come like this stock, or at least been like this in S and M mode, but been subdued in Comfort mode. It is very manageable to drive, it's very fun to drive, it totally fixes the car... I should've done this 3 years ago. Before the car used to feel like it had a turbo on it, with a too large A/R and too small a compressor housing... you wait and you wait , then boost comes on, but there isn't that huge surge of power that you expect after that much lag. Now the car feels properly supercharged with a centrifugal blower... "

Any questions, please feel free to ask. Three-year warranty, 30-day money back guarantee.

Drive Hard. Drive Safe. Keep Grinning.

Weird that you get any lag with a Manic tune. Throttle response was drastically increased after I got mine. It is very noticeable as I am driving in stock map right now because my clutch is going out.

The Manic Tune definitely improved it from stock, but after driving the tune for over a year, I got focused on it.

OK, so I have my new clutch on order and should have that installed by the end of the year. Now, I'm ready to tackle the turbo lag. I'll check out all that was mentioned above but anyone know which turbo will address the lower end? I'm reading that a lot address top end boost and that's great, but my main issue (as stated above) is the lag from zero up to about 1500 rpm. I ordered a new lightweight flywheel so that should also help with getting the rpm's up there quicker.

Almost no turbo will make boost from 0-1500rpm, there just aren't enough exhaust gases flowing to get the turbine up to speed. If that is what you are focusing on I would have to say you are wasting your time. Smaller turbos boost sooner and going any smaller than what you already have is a shot in the foot because you will lose tons of power beyond 4000rpm. Totally not worth it nor do I believe such a turbo exits as a retail product. If you want power down there, drop a V8 in it

Funny you should say that. I got used to my 450 HP fuel injected 1969 corvette before I bought the mini, I don't regret it, but there was certainly a ton of low end torque in that thing. From day one of owning this car, I always thought 2 more cylinders would solve a whole host of performance shortfalls.
So what are the options to get the car to respond when you put your foot on the gas? Or am I chasing a dream.

Id say your chasing a dream, its the shortfall of a turbo motor. The better flowing intake and exhaust tracks you have the faster your turbo will spool. You *could* spray some nitrous for additional low end but c'mon, just rev the thing! haha I have a JCW turbo (37mmS vs 40mmJCW) with intake and full exhaust an I have full boost a smidge after 2000rpm. My clutch is finally holding full power so I can finally data log for more definitive results but id say around 2k is where you will start seeing the power these motors/turbos produce. The bigger you go, typically, the more you shift the power curve to the right. Overall power will be higher but it will happen later. Honestly, when I'm driving spiritedly, my RPMs are never below 2k so I never notice the lag.

Alternatively, you could two or three small turbochargers, that together have a larger capacity than a single larger turbocharger. They would spool up faster and at a lower RPM.
