So around June 17th I topped off my coolent reservoir using Genuine BMW/MINI Coolent since I was going on a trip & didn't want any issues. Today August 22nd I noticed that my level has went down once again and I'll be back at the MIN level soon. Ok, there are no apparent leaks in the engine compartment, all the hoses looked alright and there are no signs of leaks under my car either when parked. Could it be possible that maybe the water in there evaporated or maybe theses engines just use a lot of coolent? I use my Countryman as an everyday car. I put in about 10 miles a day to and from work, plus I also use the air conditioning everyday since the heat in California's Central Valley is just terrible. Any thoughts before I decide to take it to the shop? Any bit of information helps. Happy motoring!!
I commute 70 miles a day both ways with AC on and don't loose coolant. Perhaps you may want to start the car in place and notice any hissing or steam coming out...using your nose is critical to detect leaks. I always "sniff" the engine bay to see if there is something out of the norm...
Its most likely the thermostat housing and you cannot see it as the coolant is pooling on the transmission. Do you have a Cooper or Cooper S / SX ? Whats the manufacturing production date on the door jam sticker ?

Sniffed around after a quick trip to my local bank. Everything seemed normal. Again all the hoses seemed ok, no steam or hissing, and my according to what my MINI Connected system showed, my water temperature was ok too. So not completely sure what it is. I'll probably top it off again and see day by day if I'm losing coolent. I took some pictures and even have a start up video from earlier this week too. Maybe you can hear something that I don't. It will be up front or all the way back underneath. I don see anything up front , you need to look at the thermostat itself and right under it. You are too far up front.
i did not hear anything unusual in the video. for now, to it off and make sure the cap is closed tightly. Also maybe the coolant seems lower when the car is hot since it is pressurized in the system. after the car cools down and you open the lid, does the coolant return back up?

The manufacturing date is 04-2012 . 2012 Countryman LOL. Anyways can you be a little more specific as to where the housing is at? Since I just have a Cooper (121 HP Engine) I'd assume it'd be easier to spot since the Cooper S engines have a lot more hosing & electrical going on inside the engine bay.

Strange thing is my MINI drives perfectly normal, isn't over heating, the AC works great, transmission shifts perfectly & I just noticed that my coolent went down. I've already driven my car today & today's high temperature will be 95° so I'll just wait till tomorrow morning to top-off & I'll document before and after & after the first drive with more coolent in it. Maybe I'm just over reacting but I know I should because a lot mechanical issues can happen with theses cars but I still love it .

No problem , the reason i ask is because on the Countryman N16 engine up to 6/2010 to 3/2012 you need a pigtail adapter harness ( 12517646145 ) in addition to the thermostat housing. So it looks like you will just need the thermostat if its leaking. 11537534521
