Who produces the 2016 Transmission?

i haven't been able to find a manufacturer for the trans. I am curious as it stated on the sticker that it was made in Japan. Anyone able to find this?

For the F-model hardtops and convertible ( both auto and man. ) I am seeing Germany listed. Should be in upper corner area of window sticker....

For the new F-model Clubman however, I'm seeing Japan listed for both auto and manual.

I'm also curious. I do like the way it operates with similarity to my previous auto tranny in my C7 Z51 'Vette re: use of paddle shifters and rev matching on the down shift and the ability to manual shift it. I'm a believer in the new 'Auto' trannies that use computers to anticipate how you want to drive and operate accordingly. That said my 'Vette tranny offered even more advanced programing than the one in my JCW but it's still ahead of most Auto trannies.

Now who makes it and what other Japanese (or other makes) cars does it operate in?

Aisin IIRC, used in many cars and very good. I believe GM,Toyota and more.
Toyota may be a part owner of Aisin.
We have Aisin auto in our 07 MINI and 14 Malibu, both are great.:thumbsup
Manual in my Miata.

Found their website. Here's the link for their automotive products http://www.aisin.com/product/automotive/ . I also read that they indeed are affiliated with (TMC) Toyota Motor Company though it only talks of their manual transmissions on that page http://www.aisin.com/news/2014/010201.html .

Aisin for the automatics and Getrag for the manuals. This has been the case since at least the 2nd gen LCI MINIs and forward (2008+)

Aisin and Toyota are very closely affiliated. Aisin has a transmission facility in North Carolina and Toyota builds the same design transmission at their West Virginia transmission plant. From what I've seen from the manufacturing side, Aisin makes a good tranny.

Great! Thanks for the info. I grew up with an auto engineer/gearhead for a father, so I am always curious about such things. I was curious if this was the same company that produces the trannys for Fiat/Chrysler as they had issues with the Cherokee nine speed last year. Not that those issues would transfer, but as a way to determine if it was the trans or the auto maker.

If New Clubman with manual stick says Japan, I have my doubts to it being a Getrag.

Not sure if the sticker is incorrect or what but there are no doubts it's a Getrag - MINI has used Getrag for their manual transmissions for years including on the new 3rd Gen MINIs - MINI's own website states as much: http://www.miniusa.com/content/miniu...man/specs.html

Manual:
Base: Getrag 6MTT220
S: Getrag 6MTT350
http://www.getrag.com/media/products..._u_6MTT350.pdf

Auto:
Base: Aisin GA6F21AW F21 250FT
S: Aisin GA6F21AW F21 300FT

It's interesting to see that with a simple piggyback running on high setting (+5 psi and above), we can easily exceed the max torque rating on the Getrag 6MTT350, not to mention the lower rated Aisin box

There's some safety margin built into the specs, people with 2nd gens and bigger turbos (stage 3+ tunes) are reporting no problems with the auto AFAIK. Of course it's good of the tuner to limit boost in lower gears as well for traction and tranny life purposes.

The manufacturer of the Fiat Chrysler 9 speeds is ZF. BMW actually uses the similar ZF 8 speed across their range of cars now.
