R50/53 AC mystery..... only cold while moving.
AC mystery..... only cold while moving.
Just as the title states. While idle sitting still car blows hot air. When I start to move it cools back off. Not cold but tolerable. I've had the freon levels checked and pressures are perfect. Compressor is engaging. And temperature blend door is closing to the cold side. Is there a seal on the blend door that can go bad? But that wouldn't explain why it gets cold when I move I don't think.
Also when I press the foot setting on my controls it defaults to the defrost vent. I'm assuming this might have something to do with that issues but don't know for sure.
I know on my camaro a lot of it is vacuum actauted. If there's a leak it all defaults to defrost. There's also a vacuum actuated solenoid in the line for the heater core that blocks the flow of coolant into the core when the hear isn't on.
If something like that is in place on the mini then I'm assuming the core is getting hot and the ambient heat is causing my ac to not work well.
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated, the Temps have been bumping the bottom of 100 and I needs my ac!!

The heater core in the mini is ALWAYS hot...it has no valve....
The blend doors open and close to mix cool and hot....
So check them...
Next, make sure the cars cooling fan on the radiator is working....no fan means the compressor is working extra hard, and no/little airflow on the ac outside radiator (condenser)means very little airflow since the r134a gas is not getting condensed.....

Thanks for confirmation on heater core operation.
I said I checked the blend door, that's closing to the cold side as it should.
My low speed resistor died so the fan is currently wired to be high speed as long as the key is on. So I know for sure the fan is working lol.
