I've got the opportunity to get a (cast) JCW manifold for $100 and I'm wondering if it's worth it. I've done some googling and haven't found many definitive results on if it changes the sound/performance. In the future I'll definitely be getting a manic tune and possibly an upgraded turbo, but is the upgraded manifold going to help that at all or am I better off spending the money elsewhere?
Improved air flow to all cylinders a bit more equally improving both power and performance. We did a JCW kit on a 2009 R57s N14 Engine. They drove it for 5 years before we installed the N18 JCW manifold.
While it's meant for the N18 engine/JCW kit it bolts right up to the Pre LCI models. There was noticeable improvement of power in all gears and RPM's. I realize its labor intensive to swap, but in their case we had the other one off already so cost for labor was zip.

How many are available? If more than one, lots of would be interested!

gRay rAvEn- would it make sense to have my S manifold ported and polished? I might have to pull my turbo out anyway.... If it does make sense, are there any shops in our area that you'd recommend?

bump. This is where I am too. Will be upgrading from MCS N18 to JCW turbo N18. Should I use my existing MCS exhaust manifold and get it ported? Or just replace with JCW exhaust manifold?
And… what’s the deal with intake manifold JCW? Is it also plastic like MCS? Is there an upgrade possibility here too?
“There are a few different exhaust manifolds. One release for the early JCW MINI’s. But another that was newer release on the later JCW cars. The later one is actually the manifold that most people upgrade to from
MCS. But, There was research done comparing the early JCW manifold against the later JCW manifold and guess what? the early one showed that air flowed better*.
Anyone knows??? I’m hunting for a JCW exhaust manifold now and if true, of course I want the manifold with more airflow :-)
Get the JCW manifold if you can, it does make a huge difference. I came with my JCW tuning kit and you can see and feel the night & day difference. DetroitTuned.com sells them and has pics.
This is from them "MINI Cooper JCW Exhaust manifold for the N14 or N18 engine. If you're Installing a stage 2 kit think about this JCW exhaust manifold which offers better air flow over the standard Cooper S manifolds. Not only does it flow better, it makes more power, it is 2lbs lighter than the stock unit. Any time you can save weight, it helps you in handling and power to weight ratio. Ready to bolt on and will work on either the N14 or N18 engines."
