How to get aftermarket bluetooth working!?

I just bought an R56 Mini Clubmam Cooper S 2007. Shouldn't be too different from the US model. I'm from the UK.

My Clubman has the USB port and the Aux port but no factory fitted Bluetooth.

So far everything I have tried does not work. I am told you need BMWs proprietary Y cable or a 3rd party that works. I use Android phones like the HTC M7 and Hwawei Mate 8, as well as the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4.

I just bought the Taotronics Wireless Audio Reciever TT-BR05 and was assured this would work. It doesn't.

In which case what the hell does work?! Are there Bluetooth recievers that work that are cheap like this one? Should this one work? Would it work if I got a Y cable then plugged that cable into this?

Thanks from the UK.

I had an 08 Cooper S Hatch and because the Bluetooth didn't have audio streaming capabilities I bought one of these little things:
https://www.amazon.com/Kinivo-BTC450...nivo+bluetooth

They are powered by the cigarette lighter (or USB), and plug into the 3.5mm Aux Jack of the car. You connect your phone via Bluetooth to this device, and the streaming audio is sent to the car via aux jack. This worked for me. You may also have to get a ground loop isolator to get rid of an annoying high pitched squeal that seems to be common in BMW/MINI when doing this type of audio streaming:

That's brilliant. Thanks very much. I have discovered though that my Bluetooth receiver works, just not in my Mini. It works in my friends Mini of exactly the same year when plugged in her AUX port. Really fed up with this.

She didn't get any whine in hers but I am very glad you told me about that isolator! Thanks.

The one you bought is what I have in my 2008 R52 and works fine.

I looked at the one you have and I think I've used it before in a different car for the same purpose. I had to turn on the unit every time I turned on the car even though it was plugged into a charger and I found it really annoying. The Kinivo just turns on with the car which is much more convenient. It's very strange that it works in one MINI but not yours!

I know. But I now am pretty sure it's my Aux Port. Also I may get the Kinovo instead.

If it is actually the aux port then won't the Kinivo also not work? It sends audio to the car via aux jack too. Have you tried plugging an aux cable in to your phone as a test to see if the plug works already?

Yes it won't work. I will have to sort the Aux out first. I will start by taking over the B%%%%% dash and seeing if everything is okay.

The reason I said I was going to get the Kinovo was I have been told my present receiver doesn't startup with the car.

Yes I plugged an AUX lead into the phone and it didn't work either.

I also have a problem where I have no Gongs and no option for them.

Not sure if this means anything to anyone. Anyway checked all cables. Everything is there and plugged in. Aux doesn't work. USB powers but I can't tell much else.

No sound through speakers.

Well I think I figured it out. The stereo unit in my car was swapped out by previous owner who then installed the incorrect replacement.

I can't afford a complete replacement so I'm stuffed. Looks like I either try a parrot system or install a Chinese one like the Beiinle Car Android Quad Core 1024*600 DVD GPS Radio Stereo.
