Front Brakes and Rotors job $540 in North Jersey
Good Morning NAM,
Does $540 for front brakes, rotors and sensors sound reasonable for a 2012 Mini Countryman S? Thats what the dealership is quoting, so I called an independent mechanic also in North Jersey and he said $1435 when I asked how much for a full break job....so I'm assuming he meant front and rear. Dealer quoted an addition 435 for the rear, so thats still almost 500 cheaper than the independent.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

How many miles on your current setup and how sure are you the rotors need replaced? I had all four corners done at a little over 80K, pads and rotors, by a local auto shop for a little over $700 parts and labor so $540 for just the front sounds excessive. I used EBC redstuff and OEM rotors from WMW.
You don't need to patronize a MINI shop for this job, any drive in mechanics shop can do the job. There's nothing magic about the MINI setup, they're all the same.
Next time, a little proactive inspection once in a while will preclude grinding off the brake sensors if they are in fact toasted.

It's a little over 56k miles. I bought it CPO two years ago, so I'm not sure when the breaks were last serviced. Alot of stop and go on my commute, so not entirely surprised. If I get the brakes serviced elsewhere, it doesn't affect anything with the CPO status right? My wife went to a Midas down the street with her CRV and they charged $380 for the front. The only pain is the sensor for those guys.
Also, one issue to look out for with aftermarket pads....When deciding on a set find out if the wear pad sensors will fit !! Seen some case where they did not slip into the back of the pad so light on dash was always present......

Thanks for the replies! They just gave me the discounted full quote of $955 (tax included) for full front and rear breaks & rotors job along with a blown parking light bulb...thoughts? Feeling woozy!

I bought the parts and had indy mechanic do them for $140 in labor for fronts, x2 for both f/r. It's an easy job but it isn't worth screwing up my old body to save the labor. So costs a bit less than $700 for Akebono pads, Centric rotors and sensor. Depending on condition of rotors you could resurface and save money but I prefer to change them. If the mechanic provides parts they are rightly going to mark them up in price.
as I recall WAY has a package with
EBC red and Zimmerman rotors for all 4 wheels at a bit under $500 (sensors if needed are extra) {WAY' site is down for maintenance or I'd hang a link}
add labor ... or DIY ....

Anyway, id assume the dealer replaces the sensor as a matter of course, so add that to the parts cost.
