Hello everyone. I am in the middle of replacing the clutch and flywheel on the mini. I have dropped the subframe, removed the axles and the starter so far. I had removed the shift cables from the linkage but this was a PITA on one of them. The shift linkage had moved a little bit while trying to pry the joint apart and im not 100 percent sure what position they should be in when i put them back together. Can anyone help me out with where nuetral would be? Also, one of the joints had seperated from the cable when trying to pop it off the ball joint. I am assuming i may need a new shift cable for that unless someone else has fixed that issue? Lastly, does anyone know of a quick way to stop the flywheel from spinning when removing the bolts that hold the flywheel on?

1. There is no position the cables need to be in when reinstalling the trans, just clip them back on and you'll be fine.

2. The ball joint being broken out of the cable will require you to replace that cable, but I would recommend replacing both cables at the same time.

3. Impact gun for removing the bolts.

2. Some have successfully glued the shift cable back together.

3. If you don't have an impact, you can use a piece of metal with holes in it. Use one of the pressure plate holes, and whatever hole works for your bar. Using this method you can torque the flywheel to the correct number when you put it back on.

 

I normally remove the bolts with an impact. If you don't have one you can use the method I just used to tighten them - 13mm wrench wedged between a pressure plate bolt and a trans bolt threaded in the block. I have done this method on 3 different cars and none have been damaged... Just be smart about it.

2. I was afraid I was going to break mine but got out of it unscathed. I would replace them honestly. I can see how you are apprehensive because they are $120 each, but when else are you going to be in there with that much installation clearance right?
