Does anyone know how to make this happen? I've looked at so many aftermarket "universal" naked roof rack systems and cannot find one that appears to fit my R61.
Anyone out there in the MINIverse found a solution?
Sounds like you are in the exact same place I was. Wanted to carry kayaks with no factory roof rails. Not finding a better solution I bit the bullet and installed the roof rails myself. Took a few careful hours and it was worth it. I can carry kayaks on the roof and bike on the back with the M7 trailer hitch.
Makes the car much more useful.

Glad to see you were able to install the rails on your paceman without any problem. I think I'll try to do this in the next few weeks as well. I need to mount a giant box on the roof to fit a quiver of skis, but don't trust the Yakima rack to hold that thing down.
xr7kid, can you list the parts for the rack system? Your setup looks good and Yakima doesn't show a listing for a Paceman w/factory rails.
The actual rack system is the same setup that's in the link below. Except I didn't use the Hull-a-Port Pro kayak carriers. Read a few bad reviews and decided on the Malone downloader folding racks.
Thanks for the links, I'm looking at getting a Paceman and not sure if I'll buy off the lot, or order one. So prepping myself for adding rails if necessary, although if I have to drill I may just use the Yakima tracks or perm mount Landing pads since Im invested in Yakima stuff. The key is being able to use load bars that are wider than the roof.
I found a company in the UK that makes the roof rack system for the Mini Paceman w/o roof rails. Farad and the model number is BS 119. They are not currently shipping to the US though.
