F55/F56 Aftermarket Gauges
Aftermarket Gauges
As some of you might know Papawhiskey has installed some cool black faced Autometer (Spek) brand gauges in his new JCW. They are a good match to the existing. He is having to custom make an adapter to plug into the oil pressure mount near the oil filter. From my research the only one who make an adapter for the F56 are Cravenspeed (they also make the mount Paul has used) -but it is for a vac/boost gauge.
So I started digging....and discovered a company called speedhut.com. This is a cool site as you can completely customised your gauges....but even more interesting is they make gauges that plug into the obd2 port and will give you oil pressure readings without going through the firewall and getting your hands dirty. Check them out....way cool.

Looks like all the oil pressure gauges are for GM vehicles only.
Cravenspeed makes OBD II gauges for the R56 and the last I heard was they're working on a set for the F56. I had a set of the R56 gauges and they were very nice.

You are right about the oil temp/pressure. But the nice thing is they do other gauges and you can customise them including put a mini logo on etc. Just not sure how long those faces will last before they fade!
Is there a problem plugging in gauges into the OBII port and running a piggyback system? I've read that running any of those system with say a Mini specific Scan Gauge II isn't good idea. Thanks in advance
On my R56 I was running a Cravenspeed boost and water temp gauge and had a Mini specific ScanGauge II piggybacked on the OBD II. Never had a problem. I traded my gauges in to Kellen when I traded my car and sent the Scangauge back to the company and had the F56 specific programming installed on it. There was no charge for the update, just had to pay postage to send it in. The Cravenspeed nGauges are daisy-chained so there is only one OBD II connector for them whether you run 1, 2, 3, or 4 gauges. All I'm running at the moment is the ScanGauge and my Garmin (both on Cravenspeed mounts) since the new speedo/tach take up so much room. The new SG II programming for the F56 includes oil pressure!
As far as I know there are not many companies building gauges that tap into the OBD2 port. All the manufacturer's I've spoken with (Autometer, AEM etc) are starting to get into it but it will be a year I would predict. It's a complete drag as all the info is there as demonstrated by ScanGauge. It's a shame that the ScanGauge is rectangular in a circular designed MINI world.
You can sign up to be notified when Kellen comes out with new gauges or improvements to existing gauges. When he came out with the nGauges for the R56 he offered a $100 discount if you got in on the original order. Who knows, maybe he'll offer the same for the F56 model. I really liked them on my R56.

Too late ordered a set of these. Nice thing is they come in imperial and metric and you change the face color and bezel. These are racing gauges with sensors that can handle high temps and vibration without problem. If interested they also do custom for a little more $. I'm going oil/water temp and boost/vac...

Be lucky to install them before the end of the year. But will look for a dimming wire before that. Will keep you all posted. Just make sure you check with the gauge manufacturer about the diming feature because if you have to actually power the bulbs you could be in trouble..if you want them to dim.
