'06 drivers seat heat problem (revisited)

The heating element in the seat back for the drivers seat of my ’06 justacooper shorted out and burned a hole in the seat back cover. I have contacted the dealer and several vendors and have been told that the heating element and seat back cover are now sourced out of BMW and sold as one unit @ $530.00+. The vendors tell me that it is a non-returnable part and once ordered and delivered it cannot be returned if it is the wrong part, color, etc. This leaves the dealer or ... . So the question is; has anyone has this problem and replaced the factory installed seat bottom or the seat back heating element with an after market unit? The fuse has been pulled, there isn’t any danger of fire or shock so the car is drivable. Thanks for your help.
