The service jack works fine with the stock lift points. But if you want to use a floor jack, then this helps. http://www.outmotoring.com/mini-coop...ad_spacer.html

I hate the service jack. The one time I tried to use it, it failed to lift the car and it leaned over and damaged the rocker panel on the car. I think it's a total piece of rubbish, especially as it relies on not being able to slide on the ground in order to do its work. Yeah, no.

I bought a used scissors-type jack out of an old Honda or some such, and keep it in the car now. I'm not using the stock POS jack again.

I've used the scissor type jack that comes with the car multiple times with no issues. It lifts the car barely high enough to slip a jack stand underneath but i haven't had it slip on the ground at all.

There is the 2x4 method.

Cut a length of 2x4 to run between the two jack points.

Place the 2x4 along the lip and running between the two jack points, use a floor jack, placed middle of the 2x4, to lift the car.

Place jack stand at the jack points, repeat on the other side

Search this forum for more info including a link to a step by step with photos.

Edit:
Google is your friend.

I read about simply using a hockey puck placed on top of the floor jack. I tried it and it works great to provide enough clearance on the lift points.
