Just picked up my new iPhone Universal Snap-In Adapter from my MINI dealer yesterday. I ordered it when I bought my car last month, but they were on hold for a while so that BMW could build up inventories.

The adapter is nice because it has a clip on it that is adjustable to the left, right, or center of the base and has a lightning connector so I can plug in my iPhone 6 or iPod. There is a small fan on the adapter that turns on when you place the Apple device in the cradle to keep it cool. Also, if you look at the side of the center armrest, you will see an air grate. This is for the additional built in fan in the arm rest. I didn't know I had one until last week when I heard a hum and felt air coming out of the grate. Nice to know MINI is engineering a way to keep you phone cool in the armrest.

The part number is 84-21-2-365-786. Price is up there, but I was more interested in keeping my iPod plugged in all the time and out of view. I really like the versatility of it.

That's the best one I've seen. Very cool, no longer stuck with one size iDevice. What's the other end of the cable?

Almost makes me wish I had an armrest.

I like it a lot. The other end of the cable plugs into the underside of the adapter. The cable is replacable if something happens to it.

So by Universal I'm hoping it can fit other phones? I plan on using my old 5 as an iPod but would like to snap in my 6plus for long trips if possible. Not a big deal but would be nice.
So how much was it? I see other models on ebay for $220 up to $320. I'm guessing those won't fit the new MINIs.

It shows up in the F56. Not definitive, but a good sign.

As long as your 6+ fits in the console, yes. I have just the 6 and haven't seen enough 6+ models to know if it will fit in there. This adapter is for all iPhones and iPods with the newer Apple lightning cable.

OK...Got my hands on a 6+...It just fits.

That's correct. Universally fits iPhones and iPods with the newer Apple lightning cable. I use my iPod for the most part in the console. I paid $235 at my local MINI dealer. My understanding is that this adapter will fit older MINIs too that have the console with adapter hardware inside.

This is exactly where I found it a few months ago and my dealer ordered it.

I have new 2015 Mini still with paper plates and have tried talking to the Mini Dealership’s Service Guy and Parts Person. Even after I gave them the part ID numbers from this thread they still have no clue. Suggested I use the Mini Accessories Website. I will try another Dealership. First I will print out and take the pages of this thread.

2016 Countryman JCW with MINI Connected

Any update on whether this will work in the newer R60 and R61 models? Trying to figure out what to do with my 7+.

Thank you.

7+ in the armrest

The phone itself fits. Is it that it won't fit with any type of adapter? What am I missing here? Thank you.

With the adapter in there, it will not fit. It won't even fit in the newer F-chassis MINIs that have bigger armrest compartments.

iPhone 7+ fits, it charges, but that is it.

I bought the adapter this morning. The adapter and the phone fit in the 2016 R60 armrest. The phone charges. However, even with Mini Connected running on the phone, the phone and the car don't recognize each other.

Has anyone that has purchased this adapter actually gotten any type of connectivity other than power?

Thanks.

How are you able to get it to fit?! It barely fits in the F56 and the R60 has a smaller armrest.

Anyway, what's the part number of the snap in adapter you got? The snap in adapter will be different from the F56 to the R60. I believe 84212365785 is the correct one for 2nd generation MINIs with Connected.

I have the R60; It's a 2016. I have attached an image of the adapter in place, and of the box with the part number on it. It fits, it just doesn't work. The phone charges, but that is it.

I know the adapter would fit, but I didn't think the phone would fit - are you able to fit the 7 plus in there AND close the armrest?

I think you have the wrong part # - The Connect version is for the newer F-Chassis MINIs with the updated MINI Connected system. If possible, try the Media version instead: 84212365785

Thank you so much. I exchanged the one I had for the model you suggested and all works as expected. I can confirm; iPhone 7+ fits and MINI Connected works!

So does this ACTUALLY give you the equivalent of another USB port that is dedicated to the iphone/ipod? Or does the phone still have to be connected via BT? SO is 84212365785 correct for the Mini I have, a 2016 F54 with Connected XL H/K and I can leave my 32GB mini USB stick in the USB port all the time for music access?

Time to ask if anyone has tried the universal snap-in adapter (part number 84-21-2-365-786) with an IPhone 8?

I believe you need to program it to be accessible w/the radio. Trying to figure something out for my F55.
