Looking for gear from dead sunroof motor

Hi,

I just bought a 2005 MCS Convertible. The top worked great for the first day or so and now has chewed through the plastic gear in the sunroof motor. Looks like I'll need to grease the cables/tracks so it moves more freely as well as fix/replace the sunroof motor. Before I concede defeat and drop $350 on a new motor I thought I would check in here to see if someone has a dead motor with a complete gear that I could buy.

This is the part I'm looking for.

Also make sure the top cables are not sized or broken , thats maybe why the motor gear chewed up.

Hi and thanks for answering. It is nice to see ECS Tuning monitoring the forums and helping out. I ended up finding a new motor from a MINI dealer for $280 on eBay. I guess they had too many and wanted to drop them cheap? Anyway, I did order some new cables from you though .

FWIW, if anyone else has to deal with this, someone was nice enough to post a YouTube video showing the process of replacing the cables. The videos are pretty tough to watch with no editing, but since the Bentley manual doesn't have anything, this is definitely better than nothing. He suggested using JB Weld to permanently attaching the cables to the mechanisms that slide in the tracks, but from what I can tell the cables were designed to break free to prevent further damage to the sunroof cassette. A $500 decision, but could end up costing $1000's if it ever siezes again.

Hopefully I can convince my son to help document and consolidate everything into a clear DIY post including not only replacing the parts but also showing what and where to grease and lubricate to help keep this top running for a long time.
