i feel really bad and want to fix it for her asap. im no mechanic, from the looks of the picture, it seems pretty easy.... just plug and play? but how do i go about accessing the back-end? do i have to bring it to a shop?

The front side on the valve cover is easy. The rear you will have to snake back through and its on the driver side of the intake manifold. You will have to take the intake air box out to reach this easier. They pinch and snap on on each end .

If you can't see where it goes, I'd start removing intake/breather hoses and such to give you access. As long as you don't have to pull the intake you should be fine. Just be mindful that there are a bunch of electrical and vacuum connections down there.

I snapped mine while pulling the head. It was fairly brittle. I hope the new one is a little more pliable. That's actually the next step (intake install) on my head replacement job in process.
