Rev limiter JCW engine...........

Is it possible that the clutch slips at about 6500 rpm in 1st and 2nd gear because it is a dual mass unit? Is is just the engine cut off?

I have been told that the clutch is supposed to be stiffer than the S and more performance oriented.

The engine seems pretty much flat about torque above 6000 rpm.

The engine cuts at 6500 rpm. My 1988 BMW did that. Power flattens out near redline. Sounds normal to me.

Thanks for your reply. Mine is a stick shift and in some ways brutal when changing gears at high rpm. I cannot compare with an automatic transmission.

It is the reason I am wondering if it is related to the dual mass clutch.

When a clutch slips, you'll see a rise in the engine revs (assuming you hold the throttle steady). It would be very similar to breaking traction on slippery pavement.

It is very easy to break traction with the 6 SP JCW Coupe in lower gears at 6000 RPM while driving below 50 MPH.

The problem is more about engine torque and power at high speed without exhausting the hell from it.

When you break traction with a front wheel drive car, you should feel it in the steering. It will go light or it will move one way or the other depending if one wheel or both are slipping. If the clutch slips, the feel of the steering should not be effected.

What you may have to do is drive another MINI with a manual transmission for reference...

Typically though, clutch slippage is felt more at low speeds, in a lower gear with a lot of throttle opening. That's when you are attempting to put more load through the clutch.
