No chrome tail lights

I finally got around to tackling this.

Sorry admins I think this should've been in mods thread.

Looks clean , nice job. Doing this to the Euro OEM taillights would look great also.

Very cool.

Those are the pre 7/2004 . not a direct swap for the 7/2004+ models , will have to do so wiring mod due to no reverse light.

@808Keith: Can you post a little more on the process, I assume you removed the taillights then split them? Are they pretty easy to split?

BTW: great looking Mini and light treatment. Nice work.

You'll see where the clear lens meets the black plastic body the sealer/adhesive they used. That's where you'll be cutting through. I used a dremel with cut-off wheels but maybe should've tried one of those little saw blade attachments as the cutoff wheels kinda melt it as you go. Just carefully go all the way around and the lens will come right off.

Inside the red lens will pop out but you gotta be a little careful as it's held in with 4 tabs. Use like wide flathead scewdriver or maybe like a stiff putty knife to help pry it out. It sounds like it breaks but that's just it releasing from the clips. Once it's out, I used rubbing alcohol to wipe off the chrome paint.

When putting everything back together it's jus the reverse.. pop in the red lens and make sure everything is clean.

On mine one of the lens I used 5-min JB weld and the other I used black silicone adhesive. Just wanted to see which was better.. So far both seem to work ok no difference except working times.. the JB is quick setting unless you use the regular JB weld and wait till everything has cured over night.

Sorry I didn't take any pics.. with a 1 year old I had a limited window in which to get this project done..
