MINI Connected and iPhone 6/Plus

Does anyone know if you can just use the Apple USB cable (USB/Lightning charging cable) to connect and use MINI Connected with an iPhone 6 plus?

I've got MINI Connected w/nav and have been trying to use the Apple USB cable, and sometimes it will work with the app on my phone, and other times it seems to get stuck on the initial "connecting..." screen.

No...the MINI Y-cable is required

Hmm, we have MINI Connect on our 2012 CM S. We use a Pro-Clip phone dock to power up the phone for charging, but Bluetooth Stream either of our iPhone 6s'[ 1 is a Plus , 1 is a regular 6] for audio play of our music library.
I only use the BMW/MINI Y cable in my 2012 Clubman which does not have Connect. Had to get the infamous Y cable since the Apple cable is not 'recognized'.
We were happy to have the wireless streaming ability in the Countryman since it meant no cable connections except for charging.

I've found a couple of threads that talk to this, but they aren't very specific in the type of Y cable you need for MINI Connected. I can stream music and calls through Bluetooth, but I believe (based on what I've seen in previous threads) you need a Y cable to have audio play when using MINI Connected and the MINI Connected app. I can use my Apple USB cord, but it won't push audio through my car system. I believe this is the Y cable you need for iPhone 6/Plus and MINI Connected WITH nav:

A bit pricey, and unfortunately I didn't get anything besides the owner manual with the MINI Countryman S I purchased recently. I'll verify with the dealership tomorrow before spending nearly $90 on a cable.

Be mindful Mini has different Y connectors. If you have Mini Connect it should had come with the delivery. Of course, they provided me with the incorrect Y-connector. One is designed for Mini Connect which actually has a triangular connection joint. There is also one with a rectangular connector which does NOT work Mini Connect. Once I added the Apple lightning adapter to the triangular Y-connector, it worked.

Mine came with the wrong Y-cable. It came with the 61122287642 music cable, which is not for use with MINI Connect/Nav. I had to get them to swap it for the 61122287505 media cable.
