Warning Sticker on Dashboard

HI Guys,

Well.... I got my WP/B striped Mini yesterday. It looks great.  Sadly it was pouring here in NYC and it was kinda nerve racking driving in traffic, pouring, trying to get acquainted, playing with the Nav. Anyhow, I hope today I get to let loose.

On my Mini, they put the warning sticker right above the glovebox on the alloy patina portion of the dash. This is not an "easy-peel off" sticker. My wife started on a corner, and it looks quite stuck there.

How do I remove this thing??!!?? I read the posts about acetone, and denatured alcohol, but these were for the stickers on the visor. I need to be careful as this is in the most prominent and visible spot on the dashboard, directly on the alloy patina finish.

Today I am ready for the "Elbow Landing Device" and the "stuff box" below the the A/C.

Thanks,
Nando

That's right about the sticker you need to be very careful how you remove it. The panel it is stuck to has a clear vinyl coating that can get damaged i.e. blister, crack and peel if you use the wrong solvent to help peel it off, I talk from experience and now I am $55 poorer! You will need to get a cleaning solvent that is designed to remove adhesive. I found a product in my local hardware store called AFTA it comes in a small 8oz can for about 4 bucks.
Pharmacies also sell a product that helps remove bandaids for people with sensitive skin but I am not sure of a brand name, your pharmacist would know. Whatever you use make sure to do a small test area first by rubbing some into the surface in an inconspicuous location. You can also use warm soap and water but you could wind up leaving behind some of that adhesive behind which the mild adhesive removers will take care of. Good luck!

I was able to peel that sticker off using nothing but my fingernail and fingers with no problem and no traces left behind. Its the visor decals that I'm afraid to touch.

Good luck,

Denatured alcohol a rag and a little guts to do it is all the visor decals needs. The longer you wait the older the glue becomes and the harder it will be to get off.

For the Patina dash - I used Goo Gone - available at a hardware store - worked like a charm and did not damage the finish at all.

Cheers,

You can also use WD-40. Easy to come by and safe.

My wife pulled it off the patina on the way out of the dealer. Try another corner perhaps....

I've got the anthracite dash, and that warning sticker peeled right off on the way of the dealership. No residue, no chemicals needed.

The sticker on the dash also pulled off easily on my MINI. I'm sure any of the suggestions above would get it started and it would come off easily.

I also wonder about the visor stickers. They don't even really look like stickers to me, they look like they are painted on! Not trying to highjack your thread but does anybody have add'l advice on whether the visor warnings are really stickers.

Cheers,

Yeah it looks painted to me too, but it might be one of those thin transfer type decals that are applied with water. They also look like paint. They are most often found on scale plastic models. I haven't touched mine either!

Try WD-40

A good "universal solvent" for sticky labels is WD-40. I have found it will soften and remove even baked on glue. All WD40 is is petroleum based penetrating oil that doesn't attack paint or plastic (in limited doses).

The dash decal is easy to remove. Goo Gone helps the best with problem decals. Ya, it stinks but leave the windows open and soon the stink is gone. The sun visor decals are tricky but easy. The decals feel as though they are vinyl, the adhesive is soluble with some gentle application of rubbing alcohol. I soaked cotton pads with rubbing alcohol, not dripping wet, just saturated, wet the entire decal and starting with a corner gently rubbed until it begins to wad up. Keep rubbing gently and before you know it, maybe 10 minutes per visor, the thing is gone.

They are stickers. You can get them off with de-natured alchohol. Dip a cloth in the alchohol and dab it on the sticker until it softens up. Then you can sometimes peel it off, or rub it off. Works great. that was my first mod

Mine came off at the dealer with no problems. I have the Anthracite dash finish.

Maybe the Alloy Patina dash is not as smooth?

Sticker removing was my first mod. Alloy Patina dash. Did the goo-gone thing on the dash and the alcohol deapplication on the visors. No problems, and no ugly stickers.

Thanks all,

The dashboard sticker did manage to peel off quite easily. Its a vinyl sticker as opposed to a paper sticker. The paper stickers tend to not peel off properly. You know what they can look like. This one came off without a hitch. A very small amount of glue residue was left behind, but I am sure a little cleaner will take it off.

The visor ones do not bother me. I am willing to live with them

Thanks again to all.

My wife said, "you want this sticker off of here", referring to the dashboard sticker. I said sure and she pulled it off easily with no damage and no residue.

The visor stickers are still there but don't bother me.

I asked my "Motoring Adviser" to remove the stickers so that it would be his problem if something went wrong.

Still have the airbag notices on the visors. 25 years from now some collector is going to want it! Trust me, I have been in a "classic" car club for years !

regards,

Spotted this '02 yesterday with the dash sticker still on...

Also saw two MINIs with the warning sticker on the upper left of the windshield. I pealed both of mine off my '04 when driving home from the dealer when I first picked it up.
As for the visors... the stickers/images don't bother me at all and I am going to leave them alone.

My dash and window stickers came off easy. Just peeled them off, and then cleaned off the adhesive with GooGone.

I still have the stickers on the visors, it's kind of cool having a Warning of Eminant Death up there for new passengers to see!
