Sad day...

So I'm pretty sure my Mini is totaled. Was going down a small two lane highway right after the first snow here in KS. It has been in the 20's all week as well. Luckily I wasn't going anywhere near the speed limit, I was doing around 45mph. Came over a hill and hit a slick spot, didn't break or over correct, thought I was gonna make it out, then hit another slick spot and slid right across the oncoming lane into a cement box culvert. Somehow managed to narrowly miss the cement wall and nose dived into the dirt on the other side. My friend and I were both unharmed aside from minor cuts and we still shot guns and drank beer later that day. Now I'm waiting for the insurance to tell me how bad they are going to bend me over. And I am in Kansas with no car and my wife is in Georgia. I'm pretty upset about the whole ordeal, but it's just a car, I'm glad everyone walked away.

I wish the best to all of you, and be safe and keep your Mini's on the ground!

Motor on!

That sucks. Glad you're okay. Curious what make/model tires you had on because I just moved from California to Oregon and we've already had some ice here last week, just not on the road yet.

I was thinking the same thing...we're they "all-weather" tires?

I just checked and apparently the Bridgestone Turanza ER300's I had were summer touring tires... I feel even dumber for just assuming they were all seasons. All seasons still suck and I was looking for a set of cheap wheels to put some winter tires on. I have some 15" Blizzak's on 5 lug wheels from my last car.

What counts is everybody is safe....another foot to either side...and could have been different.
There will be other cars....
Consider the tires a lesson learned....anything that doesn't kill you makes you stronger!!

Yea, The tow truck guys said about 5 inches difference would have made our day MUCH worse.

On a good note, my friend gave me the spare key to his AWD Mazdaspeed 6. I am going to try keep that between the lines until my insurance tells me what is happening.

This has been just a crazy experience, (first wreck) but I'm getting by and I appreciate all the concern and I hope that my misfortune can be a lesson to others. Definitely check those tires when buying a new car. Being from KS I just assumed any car would have all seasons on it.

Glad your ok, really sucks about your car hopefully your insurance is reasonable. Drive safe out there and make sure your tires are safe, I'm in buffalo and you wouldn't believe the tires the locals use in winter up here.

So my insurance is actually being nice to me and valued my car at 8571.77 so after they take off my $1k deductible I will be walking away with $7500 for a car that I payed $7300 for less than 6 months ago.

I haven't seen any MCS's in that price range though so I doubt I will get another Mini for a while. I miss my truck so I will probably get another extended cab silverado until I get out of college and can afford a spare car.

First glad your ok.

Second. You get a do-over. Not everybody does. No harm no foul.

Ps when they valued your car did they include tax that you paid when you purchased it? Most states allow this. Just checking.

Good luck
