oil pressure dummy light 2006 S

Hi.
New here. Had my Mini for a few years now. 66,6xx miles. Have an appointment tomorrow at MiniNorthwest because the dummy light has been coming on after engine is warmed, and unless I keep it about 3k rpms. Just wondering if anyone has had this problem. Something easy? Something ultra expensive?
Thanks in advance
Melinda

Changed the oil recently?
There is a plastic valve in the bottom of the oil canister that can break off and cause the symptoms you're seeing. The valve can't be sourced on it's own, so you'd need a new (or used) filter housing. Enterprising folks have used a circlip to hold the valve in place (originally it has 3 or 4 plastic tangs that secure it to the housing.)

The dummy light is there to let you know you don't have oil pressure. That's bad. Don't be shocked if you need some expensive parts soon. First part most likely is an oil pump.

Yea seriously, who told this guy that the oil pressure sensor indicator is a dummy light? What would be the point of having that light be meaningless?

This is why I will pe putting an oil pressure gauge in my car. Old cars always had oil pressure gauges. They would tell you what was going on. by the time the idiot light turns on damage could have already happened.

Yup...
Oil psi guage is VERY nice to have...
But like a functioning temp guage, some folks do not understand how to read them...and car makers dumb them down, like the stock gen1 temp "dummy guage" where it us in the middle or overheat or cold...really 3 postions...
Gotta say I love have the chrono pack...glad I did not get a GPS...a old car based unit is a dead end upgradibility wise....
And to the OP...
RED MEANS TURN THE CAR OFF...
I'd tow it to the shop...a $100 tow is cheaper than a $4500 motor....
