R50/53 Is it alright to use Ethanol free 102 Octane in my R53 ?
Is it alright to use Ethanol free 102 Octane in my R53 ?
I live in northern Nevada and our town has a fuel station that sells Ethanol free, 102 Octane fuel.
Is it alright to use this fuel in my 2006 R53 ? ? ?
I don't want to damage anything since my Mini has never had a chance to ingest pure fuel with such a high Octane rating.
If any NAM members that are currently using Ethanol free fuel, with an Octane rating of 91 or higher please chime in on this topic.
I am guessing I could blend the standard 91 Octane fuel with Ethanol, with the Ethanol free fuel and maybe start to save my motor and fuel system from additional damage resulting from Ethanol.
So, lets hear those comments from those in the know on fueling the Mini R53.

We all need to know the truth; not what we are being fed to believe is the truth.

Zero ethanol would be the best. To "much" octane doesn't exist.
Here in Belgium the Cooper S has to use the super plus, yes I know you can also drive on the Super but the engine will have less power.
The carbon deposit on valves comes mostly from the ethanol in the fuel.

Unless you're tuned to require the use of high octane race gas using 102 will be a waste of money.
If you have a reduction supercharger pulley installed then higher octane can help in reducing pre-injection or knock but typically premium 91/93 octane fuels are sufficient for most applications.
EDIT: Today's engines and fuel systems are rated to use ethanol blended fuels up to a specific about usually 10%.

And make 100% sure it is lead free (not "low lead") fuel....
And 10% ethanol fuel is fine....so mixing it with pump gas, aka, e10 is fine....
So, the best overall answer would be to find 91 Octane unleaded fuel without any Ethanol.
Great, but try finding that anywhere close to where I live . . . . . . . .
Anyway, it was just a topic I thought I would throw out to everyone.
Thanks.

Ethanol doesn't make a better fuel quality like lead did. It's a stupid "green" obligation.
Modern engines may use it but it will attack rubber and it forms easily carbon .The use of full synthetic oil and fast riding will lessen it.Here in Belgium the superplus has almost zero ethanol. The normal fuel has 5 %

I run a tank of 100+ octane/Ron every so often to clean out all that garbage ethanol in my fuel system. It will not hurt anything so long as it's lead free.
my car runs slightly smoother and I notice that heat has less of an effect on timing retardation. Ethanol is junk.
