Castrol on sale at Walmart

Went to wallmart to pick up some Mobil 1 with the $12 rebate they have going on, but castrol European formula 0-40w was on sale for $21 a jug.

Just a FYI.

The rebate was posted here somewhere, but directed here.

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showpost.php?p=8551240

I called the rebate center toady and they said Walmart was fine even though not listed on the rebate form, but for 7 bucks more I went with castrol because that's what I use anyway and don't have to wait 2 months for the rebate check.

Note the rebate expires oct 31.

I wonder if I could mix brands ( Mobil & Castrol )...? Technically I can, right? Same weight of course!

Is there a limit on how many jugs I can buy? I can live with the minimun whatever that may be...

Thanks for the lead!

I read somewhere that part of the full syn spec was that oils with the same rating can be intermixed.

However, to save 10 bucks, I probably wouldn't do it.

The limit on the rebate is 2 jugs.

Basically you're getting 3 jugs for the price of 2. What's not to like?

Nothing to do with the "full syn spec". Basically all motor oils can be mixed, including viscosities (you'll get some average viscosity of the two) and conventional/synthetic. In fact, the mfgs sell a semi-synthetic which is a mix of the conventional and synthetic, so the idea that you can't mix the two together makes no sense at all.

can't go wrong with either M1 or Castrol 0w40. both are good stuffs. i just change oil and used M1 and it quiets the engine more than the MINI oil. my startup is less noisy. i will probably try Castrol later.

In Europe we have to use Castrol Edge full synthetic and for the fuel super plus 98.
Then the problems of the carbon deposit are almost zero. The methanol in the US fuel gives an extreme high temperature with the combustion and a normal oil will burn.
Oil mixing is allowed but the top performance will be gone.

Thanks! My goal is to have a "donor" jug that I can use to top off so I can guage it better on how much it uses/burn oil either by weeks, months or mileage. I have a very poor approach on these kind of things.

All my 5 jugs have been premeasured to have 4.3-4 liters in it now and do not want to mess with it.

I just remembered that somewhere in the owner's manual stating that one of the approved brands, i.e., Mobil 1 5-30w can be used to top off your oil. So it's good.

I agree with you about saving $10 can sometimes change the whole equation...

I've been seeing it for quite a few weeks in my Walmart ~$21.67 - 5qt jug. The only caveat is that for all the Castrol Edge viscosities avail at Walmart, only the 0W-40 European formula is *technically* allowed by MINI.

I personally can't put a 40 weight in my car.

Mobil 1 0W-40 is all I run in my Mini. I use Mobil 1 in all my vehicles except the Harley. Went to WallyWorld today and picked up 2 jugs before the deadline for the rebate. Regardless of the specs, every time I change the oil and filter on mine, it takes the full five quarts to bring it up to the full mark. I always buy the 5 quart jug and an additional quart to keep in the car to add occasionally between oil changes. Now I just have to remember to mail my rebate form tomorrow to get my 24 bucks back.

I keep a 5qt jug in my trunk. I swear my mini sips oil like it was aged (insert favorite liquor) :D
