I hear 170 hp stock on mcs and it will get that power from the pulley. So are those of us with the normal pully going to be able to upgrade and keep waranty and all that?

Even if the '05 MCS's get their +7HP bump from a smaller pulley, it certainly won't be smaller than the JCW pulley, which is currently a 13.8% reduction.

So, let's say the '05 MCS has, for example, and pure speculation, an 8% reduction pulley. My gut-instinct says NO FRIGGIN WAY will MINI let us early years update to the '05+ pulley and keep our warranty. Just MINI's way of saying "trade your old slug in already! Neener, neener, neeeeeeener!"

Just to add to the rumor mill; I've also read the '05 MCS power bump is from ECU and exhaust tweaks.

I highly doubt the HP improvement is from the pulley. Most likely it's from ECU and exhaust tweaks. The exhaust is completely different apparently. Will this make aftermarket exhausts obsolete? If the new MINI exhaust gives 3-5 more horses (which is what most aftermarkets realistically give), are people going to spend $600-900 just for more volume/diff tone? I highly doubt many will.

My guess would also be the exhaust... I would seek to see how torque might have changed though. If at such an expense (less grunt), it might not be exactly worthwhile... Folks will change their exhaust for typically 3 reasons (one or any combo): performance, sound and appearance.

I think I read somewhere it had something to do with INSIDE the supercharger.

No, no, no!!! The superchargers on the 04's changed to the coating on the blades that the JCW uses. This doesn't really provide any substantial/measureable increase in power and current MINIs being produced already have this coating I believe.

for those of you 'spec racers' 7hp might be a big deal, but I don't think
you're going to feel a difference in power just from 7hp at the crank on
a good day.

Very true. However, 2nd and 3rd gears are smaller which WILL be noticeable during acceleration.

Looks to me like we all are doing the product development for MINI... they look at what we're doing, see what works, and copy it!

It doesn't matter if this is the most highly tuned exhaust, performed by Borla, Mini, ex-F1, and ex-NASCAR engineers. There will be ton of tuners claiming that the new exhaust is inefficient, and that theirs reduces backflow and is good for 10hp. Mated to there new headers and you can get 20hp.
