R56 Have to add oil...no leaks?
Have to add oil...no leaks?
I have to add about a quart of oil every few hundred miles and I don't have any visible leaks or any oil on the ground? I don't understand where it could be going... When I go around sharp corners the oil light comes on sometimes... 2007 mini S with 86,000 miles.
That oil light should NOT be coming on at all. When you go around corners the oil is sloshing away from the oil pickup and starving the oil pump which is causing the oil pressure to drop which causes the the light to come on. Low oil pressure means the bearings aren't getting proper lubrication which is not good at all.
Are you sure you don't have any oil leaks on the ground? Are you parking in the same spot every time? Have you actually looked under the car to see if you can see any oil leaks? If you are burning that much oil you should be able to see evidence on the spark plugs.

"a quart of oil every few hundred miles" WOW! That should not be happening... that Oil has got to be going somewhere... If the oil is not leaking out... it must be burning or sharing with the cooling system.
I would first check the oil filler cap, check for ice cream in the cap and on the valve train, maybe a compression test, looking for good valve seating and ring seals. (oil can leak down through the Valve Guides and burn, if the rings are not sealing the compression can be escaping through the engine block causing extra pressure in the PCV system blowing oil/oil vapor into the air intake burning the oil) you can also check the plugs for evidence of burnt oil ( http://www.docstoc.com/docs/14254948...doc---Team-BHP )
Oh, yea... 2007 S first year of the turbo (if it is a hatchback, supercharged if a convertible) If it is the turbo, there is also a possibility that the oil is bleeding through the turbo bearing and into the compressed air and/or into the exhaust and burning there...
Good Luck, keep us posted in what you find.

That's crazy, prepare for a large repair bill. I have an 07 MCS and only burn 1 quart every 2000 miles, these N14 engines are known for burning oil just not at your rate of oil consumption. Get a compression/leakdown test before doing anything to your Mini, either test will tell you the health of your engine.
In case you're new to MINI...these cars (N14 eng) like to burn oil and you have to check the oil level every week or two...otherwise bad things will happen. One quart every 1,000 miles is normal.
Also, please be aware that the standard dipstick reading is deceiving. There are better dipsticks on the market.
I don't understand the oil light.
Good luck...I wish you the best!

These cars eat oil at a consuming rate, depends on the way the car is taken care of or it's probably a lemon sometimes haha. My '11 burns half a quart, but I've seen plenty N14s burn close to a quart and a half.
Just be careful you don't want to kill your engine.

Mine was doing the same thing except the oil light didnt came on before the engine was swaped. get urs checked soon. Btw, did urs superknock?
