Rear Caliper Tool Issue

Hello,

While attempting to change my rear brakes I am having an issue compressing the caliper. I have two different caliper retraction sets. My issue is that none of the adapters fit my caliper. I have looked online and found that the 3/8 should be the correct size adapter. I have used the 3/8 adapters from each set and they don't fit into the caliper. The *****? on the adapters are too big to fit into the caliper holes.

Is this the correct size? (I've tired all the other adapters)

Is it possibly the brand of the set?

Any thing would help.

Thank you!

I've found using a needle nose pliers works ok. Put the tips in the two holes and
press and turn simultaneously. Be persistent and patient.

Yes.

My friend has a set where you don’t use the adapter on the Mini just the bare treaded piece with nibs.

There should be something that fits in any set as ours is not unusual.

Year and model?
Not all MINI'S are the same....
One tip/warning....the rears can sometimes sieze from corrosion...so trying to compress them/while turning it can sometimes be hard/impossible....
I know the older brake tools lack the right size attachment, but the habourfreight tool's smallest attachment is the right one on a gen1 (2002-2006 hardtop).....

2004 hardtop. I will try the HB tools, they seem to be mention frequently in related threads. Thank you very much for the replies

Are you using the correct thread for the tool? Most sets I've seen have left and right handed threads, and I can't remember which the right one is. With the Harbor Freight set and the right adapter it works fine.

The HF tool fits well on my 2004, but there is a gotcha. The pitch of the threads of the tool don't match the threads of the caliper, so you have to keep resetting the tool as you go. Not a big deal, but if you don't know this, it will "bind up" and drive you batty.

I noticed that too with the HF tool on my 2003. I eventually went back to the
needle nosed pliers method and did a little better with that.
