Gas Flap Actuator Replacement

Hi everyone....

My gas flap does not lock and I'm thinking the actuator must be bad. Does anyone have instructions how to remove and replace?

Thanks for any help in advance.

The little motor can stick or fail , it sets on the driver side behind the carpet. When it works and you lock your MINI it comes out and lock the fuel door.

What year R50 / R53 do you have? Check your door jam for the production month/year.

#7 in the diagram.

There is one for up to 3/2003. Part # 51177115559

And one for 3/2003 on. Part # 51177152588

Thanks

Thank you for the quick reply. I have a 2004 Mini Cooper s r53. From the diagram it looks as though removing the quarter panel and back trunk parts are required. Is the part number the same for 2004 r53?

You can't remove the quarter panel, it's welded on the car. On mine, a 2005 S, it's right in your face once the driver side rear trim is removed (rear corner). My rear trims has been off the car forever, so I don't remember if the access panel on the trim is big enough to easily remove it from there. (The manual lever for the trap is accessible once you remove the small panel)

Can't say for a 2004, but it might be similar.

Just check you production date in the door jam and you will see if you are pre or post. And you will course remove the inside carpet to get to it, through the trunk.

Thanks again....actuator was fine, the locking cable had just become dislodged. I removed tail light assembly and had a straight line of sight to test it and reseat the dislodged locking cable.

Thanks again everyone.
