Road Noise

Lately, I've been hearing a lot of road noise. Much more than usual. It's usually only pretty bad around 50MPH and up. It honestly just sounds like my tires rotating creating road noise. The car also gets a little bumpy around 70MPH but smooths out around 75MPH and up.

I don't really understand what could be causing it. Could my wheels be out of balance?

It usually gets worse on very smooth surfaces.

I took it to the BMW Specialist shop I usually go to and they said I need new tie rods because they're frozen and they couldn't get them off with heat. So I guess I have to get those done then an alignment at some point. The tires don't look like they're wearing irregularly.

How much wear is on your tires? Some tires as they wear get incredibly noisy. This happened on my wife's Subaru with Bridgestone tires. Bought a new set of Continental DWS and couldn't believe how quiet they were.

It is probably the tires. If you have run flat tires they get even more noisy as mileage builds up. Even regular, non-run flat tires can do this depending on tire brand/tire model but run flats are notorious (dumping run flats for non run-flat tires will improve ride, noise level, and handling).
