Advice to a new owner!!!

Hello all!

I just bought a 2011 Countryman S with 34,600 miles on her. I drove it and fell in love with it. Now down to business:

The no cost maintenance runs out in a month, am I able to go to any dealer and request a full on inspection?

Some things that caught my attention –
• Small rattling coming from the passenger side every time I accelerate.
• Light grinding sound from brakes when I come from a complete stop.

The previous owner kept very detailed service records and nothing glaring comes up, so I’m pretty confident in mu purchase. I would love to hear from you all in the community to see what things I should be looking out for.
Please advise!

I would just call and ask and let them know the warranty/maintenance is over in a month and you want to go in for a check up before it expires.

Rattling sound i hv that too like a buzz noise, looks to be the top center plastic pieces/vent pieces

New owner of 2011 as well. I took mine in to check transmission as I felt it was staying too long in gears (auto all4). I have 25K on mine. No issues at all with doing the service with no charge, but they didn't do anything. Car still seems to wind it up for no reason. Wish I had a manual tranny.

Same here, I've tried using thin weatherstripping around the edge , seemed to help but it still makes me crazy

When it happens i just press on the plastic panels a bit and be gone or lesser sound. But then i hv all these fingerprints on it that i hv to clean up. .. The sound not too bad, often times other sounds like charger or things in the compartment box makes noise too

Yea, cant deny service since is still under warranty. Keep us posted as many probably in the same boat and try to squeeze in that last free check before warranty is over.

I’m a new Mini owner for just less than 2 months and I always find it entertaining to go to the dealership and look at their gear. Probably b/c of the dark black setting and cool modern feel to it and all the neat accessories you can look and get =)

I wonder if you are getting low on the pads with that light grinding sound when stopping (sounds like the pad sensor indicators have not gone off yet though).

This is a little tricky. If you have a reputable dealer and the pads are getting low (or maybe the rotors are slightly warped?), they will go ahead and swap the rotors and pads (that do both at the same time), while your car is still within the factory service period (3/36), since it is close to running out.

That's an expensive job from Mini ($600-800 I hear), if you have to have it done after the maintenance coverage is done.

It's really fun car....enjoy!

Congrats on your purchase! Keep in mind that although the 3-year/36,000 maintenance warranty will run out the 4-year/50,000-mile limited warranty and 4-year roadside assistance remains.

Yea most likely pads are low or maybe hv things stuck in or around the pads and rotors for the noise? Sensor usually on when is below 25% right on the Mini

OT! Above to poster, didnt know they hv JCW in the red and white color! Always thought
or at least seen is in the black!

I just had my car in for another issue yesterday but while it was in I had them again try to fix that same rattle. They were successful this time. For the second time they took off the large center plastic panel up near the mirror and lined it with felt tape. They had tried this a month or so ago with no luck. The mechanic said he took off all the tape the first guy used and tried it and said it was horrific. He then put it all throughout the panel and today it was totally silent. I had resorted to sticking pieces of cardboard into where the panel connects to make it tighter, but even that wasn't working fully.

I'm hopeful it was fixed this time for good.
