R50/53 Clutch Arm Pin Removal
Clutch Arm Pin Removal
The clutch arm on my 2002 R50 broke one of the fork arms so the clutch would never completely disengage. When I tore it all down I found that the clutch fork is welded on to the shaft and not bolted like the newer models.
I ordered a new clutch arm and pin so I can replace it. The external arm that the slave cylinder pushes against is held on the shaft by what Mini calls an "anti-rattle" pin. I've tried every way I can think of to remove this pin with no luck. I finally drilled it out but even then the arm would not come off the shaft. Since I didn't need the "broken" arm and shaft I just cut it off.
My question is.... what is the proper procedure for removing and re-installing this pin and arm? The later models I worked on did not require you to remove that arm to get the shaft out of the transmission because the throw-out fork unbolts from the shaft and you just pull it straight out. I was not prepared for a welded throw-out fork. I'm sure BMW has some fancy "special tool" for the job. The arm I'm talking about is on top and to the left in the second picture below. That bad boy is on there really tight.
Thanks,
Tony T

Me either
I bought the plastic bushings that go on the shaft. Got the bottom in fine but like you I needed to pull the arm off to get the top bushing out. I hammered and punch. Not even a budge. Figured it's "rust welded" in. I gave up and left the old top bushing in. I feel your pain bro.
