That was a factory Chrono package.

Have you looked at the Cravenspeed gauges?

I haven't but I will.

Those looked factory but I'm surprised that I haven't seen more cars with them.

Guessing they're a bear to install or insanely expensive.

The Marshall MINI Cooper Gauges (boost on left; oil pressure on right) are a very good match to OE.

My favorite is the Autometer with a boost limit warning and peak memory recording:

http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugede...=color_tab-tab

It matches well, you will hardly notice the lack of a silver center. The only downside is the nighttime lighting is somewhat poor, although with the right color LED from Superbrite LEDs you can match the dash very lighting rather well.

Autometer even has a custom shop now that might be able to add some unique features for those inclined.

The alternative needle lit movement may have better lighting:

http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugede...=color_tab-tab

But that series doesn't have the peak and memory feature. For me if I'm going to the trouble and expense I want it more useful by having the peak warning. When mine goes into overboost the warning lets me know how hard the turbo is pushing.

cravenspeed gauges are another id suggest, they are $599 for 2 gauges and easy to install(plug into your OBD2 port and hide the wires)

a few key things here.
1. thats an R53, not an R56
2. that is the chrono package. a factory option, only avail in R53 models. sorry.
3. there ARE other gauges that were made (boost, volts) that said Cooper S on them that were made by steward warner in conjunction with Mini (i managed to find a pair for a Steal on ebay. one in a million chance)

but again, only for R53, although i supposed you could use them maybe for R56; IF you can find them.... but thats like finding a leprechaun riding a unicorn these days; and the boost only goes to 18psi, and no idea if that steering column piece will fit an R56 (prolly not).

so your best bet is probably the autometer / marshal gauges at this point. although i have to be honest, i have little knowledge on R56 parts. so there may be something blatant i am missing

Might be a stupid question. What size is the stock "TOP TIMER" gauge in the convertible? 60mm

I have Marshal gages they are the ones that Cravenspeed sells. They were made to match the MINI gages. The instrument lighting matches exactly.

http://www.marshallinstruments.com/c...per_gauges.cfm

I used the Cravenspeed adaptors for the oil pressure and water temperature. I made the gage pods myself out of 2" ABS drain pipe, I made the mount out of sheet aluminum.

I love it. Would you happen to have specs or a diagram to follow. I would like to make this ASAP.
Thanks
Mario

The "top timer" found on the convertibles is molded into the tach and is one piece. You can NOT put a aftermarket gauge in it if that is what you are thinking.

I've tossed the cardboard pattern I made. It took four tries before I got it right.
But, it was just corrugated cardboard with the gages attached to it, I traced it out on the aluminum with a sharpie and cut it out with a scroll saw.

The longest part was waiting for the paint to dry. Be sure to use primer for aluminum before painting it black or the paint will peel.

I had all the material in my scrap pile, so I can't tell you how much it cost.

Dave
